WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER

The Finance Specialist provides highly specialized finance/accounting-related services and directly contributes to achieving our ambitious conservation goals. The Finance Specialist will provide support on all financial operations, with specific focus on day-to-day transactional support, monitoring and reporting multiple budgets to actuals, answering procedural questions and providing finance-related support to our conservation team across the Southern Deltas - Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi. This position will work closely with project managers as well as legal and finance colleagues at the Conservancy.

Finance and operations functions for Alabama, Louisiana Mississippi and operate under a shared services agreement between the three business units. This role is currently expected to work primarily with Mississippi and Louisiana teams. While we have outlined general duties to identify tasks for which each team member is regularly responsible, our team members flex to support any of the three business units as needed.

The Finance Specialist provides specialized services in financial management and reporting; accounting; grants administration, management, and reporting; or similar financial activities for a department or business unit. They have a high level of expertise in their area(s) of specialization. The position administers and maintains finance/accounting activities in accordance with TNC policies and procedures and best practices in financial management. They respond to moderately complex employee/management questions and problems based on advanced knowledge of the subject area.

The Specialist will perform finance-related administrative tasks, including purchasing, accounts payable, contract support, processing forms, preparing reports and forecasts, and monitoring and preparing budgets. They have a high level of expertise in day-to-day transaction review, coding accuracy, generating custom reports, often with pivot tables. They will be well versed in the systems and resources utilized by the team to execute assigned tasks. The Specialist will provide guidance in satisfying administrative requirements based on extensive knowledge of policies and procedures. They may also take on special assignments as identified. The Specialist will communicate with staff in various programs across the Conservancy, as well as with donors, volunteers, vendors, and business relations. They will communicate or distribute information to assist staff in making decisions, solving problems, and improving workflow.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or related field and 3 years' related experience or equivalent combination.
  • Experience with accounting/financial issues and analysis.
  • Experience using accounting and financial reporting systems.
  • Technical experience with spreadsheet programs, general ledger reports and financial management tools.
  • Experience with GAAP and fund accounting principles, practices and regulations.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Multi-lingual skills and/or multi-cultural experience appreciated.
  • Ability to manipulate, analyze and interpret data. Advanced expertise in Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Accuracy, attention to detail and the ability to multi-task.
  • Non-profit accounting experience.
  • May require technical expertise on complex accounting/financial issues.
  • US government grants accounting experience may be preferred or required.

SALARY INFORMATION

The starting pay range for a candidate selected for this position is generally within the range of $64,000 - $72,000 for annual base salary. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. Where a successful candidate's actual pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors, including, for example, the candidate's location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience. Please note countries outside the USA would have a different pay range in the local currency based on the local labor market, and not tied to USA pay or ranges. Your geographic location will be confirmed during the recruitment.
