The History Department of Edwards-Pitman Environmental, Inc. (EPEI) is soliciting applications for the position of Architectural Historian in our Atlanta (Smyrna), Georgia, office. Candidates will have a graduate degree in History, Architectural History, or Historic Preservation and meet the Secretary of the Interior's Standards for Architectural Historian. For this position, we seek a highly motivated individual to pursue quality historical and architectural research in a cultural resource management context.
Responsibilities will include undertaking research on a variety of historic resource types; conducting field surveys to identify historic resources; evaluating resources for National Register eligibility; and preparing reports on historic resources pursuant to Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act and subsequent amendments.
To perform this position successfully, candidates should possess:
Strong working knowledge of American architectural types and styles
Understanding of how to apply the National Register evaluation criteria to historic resources
Experience photographing historic resources
Exceptional research, writing, and editing skills
Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite
Ability to work on simultaneous tasks while meeting project deadlines and adhering to project budgets
Ability to work independently to complete tasks
Willingness to work in a collaborative office environment
Ability to communicate directly with a variety of clients in the public and private sector
Ability to travel overnight, as needed, for fieldwork
A preferred candidate will also possess a working familiarity with Federal laws, regulations, standards, and guidelines (beyond the National Register) governing cultural resources.
EPEI offer a competitive salary, which will be negotiable based on work experience. This is a full-time position, not a project appointment, and is scheduled to begin immediately.
