Job Description




Assist in the analysis of material and processes as needed to resolve technical problems and improve productivity and quality in manufacturing. This task involves the development and implementation of process controls to reduce re-work, distortion, and improve overall weld quality.

• Assist in the development and implementation of welding and manufacturing plans for mitigating distortion and maintaining the dimensional stability of weldments.

• Assist in the identification, justification, and implementation of welding equipment and facilities for constructing military and commercial vessels.

• Assist in the development and qualification of welding procedures and manufacturing plans in accordance with the applicable requirements of DNV, Lloyd's Register, ABS, U. S. Coast Guard, and U. S. Navy.

• Perform cooperative studies for cost and quality improvements related to the construction of military and commercial vessels.

• Prepare clear and concise technical reports, both written and oral, and interface with ship construction personnel and sector support organizations.




Basic Qualifications




Active student with a minimum of 2 years of college education, on track to graduate with a bachelors degree in an engineering discipline. Candidates majoring in Welding Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering or Material Science Engineering.
