This position is for an Information Professional reporting to Collection Services at the Main Library. The Collection Services department handles purchasing all new materials and processing them when received. The department also includes Interlibrary Loan services. The purpose of this position is to produce cataloging services for library materials, including non-traditional items, oversee the Library of Things and non-traditional collections, perform maintenance, data entry, and quality control of library system catalog and process patron purchase requests. To provide public services to library users by addressing patron concerns and suggestions about the collection, catalog or library services. The person in this position may also supervise one or more full-time equivalent employees, contributes to collection maintenance activities, assist in staff coverage at different branch locations and be the Person in Charge for the day at different locations. The Person in Charge oversees the library, addresses patron complaints, and enforces the Code of Conduct during their designated shift. Information Professionals uphold the mission and values of the library system when performing these duties by following library policies and procedures while providing excellent customer service to all internal and external customers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Cataloging: Create, maintain and update detailed item records using modified cataloging, copy cataloging and original cataloging practices in the Library's ILS; verify all information is accurate; Correct cataloging errors as needed. Consistently reconcile catalog data with physical inventory; Maintain accuracy of OCLC holdings by comparing to local bibliographic database (ILS); Participate in the development of and adhere to department policies and procedures.
Collection Development: Process patron purchase requests after staff ratings are assigned; Act as backup to Coordinator for purchasing cart curation and submission. Oversee the Friends of the Library Traveling Book Club Kit Committee and the development of the collection, act as the liaison between the committee and the Friends of the Library. Share with staff when new kits have been created. Participate on Library of Things selection committee; identify specific items for purchase; work with the Circulation Department to receive items and verify they are correct.
Supervises one or more employees. Initiate and /or recommend personnel actions, including hiring, promoting and disciplining; Create performance standards, JDQs and work procedures for staff; Communicate continuously with employees; share information in a timely manner, provide feedback, praise and correction promptly and with tact. Provide ongoing training and ensure County/Library policies and procedures are followed; Assist staff in resolving any work problems to ensure excellent public service and promote positive public relations; Ensures staff feels empowered to make decisions related to their areas of responsibility; Ensures staff maintains current training and participates in other learning opportunities.
Serves as Person in Charge and Department/Branch Support: Serves as Person in Charge when assigned; may back up other supervisors as needed; Resolve patron problems and complaints. Work with library administration as needed to resolve problems of all types. Handle emergencies and security incidents such as, but not limited to, fire alarms, violent patrons, theft, medical emergencies, patrons violating the Library Code of Conduct policy, working with law enforcement, Open building and secure at closing. Handle building problems by contacting Facilities and technical problems by contacting OIT or ILS support; Shares the responsibilities of daily management of the department or branch including adjusting staff schedule, attending meetings with follow-up reporting and continuity of operations. Completes special projects and other tasks as assigned.
Provides Direct Public Service: Information and technology services. Provide answers and assistance to queries received by telephone, online and mail. Place reserves and interlibrary loan requests for patrons. Provide services at other service desks or locations as needed; Greet and offer professional expertise to library users as they enter the service area and as they use library resources; Accurately determine users' information needs by employing interview techniques and matching their needs with appropriate resources based on factors such as reading level, technology literacy, depth and breadth of information required, time frames and more; Oversee computer use, including public-access Internet PCs, printers and related equipment; Assist patrons by troubleshooting hardware and software problems; Provide instruction in the use of electronic, print and other formats of library resources, the online catalog and Internet as needed. Completes additional tasks as assigned for the library system.
Professional Development: Maintains awareness of technological developments and emerging library trends. Learn about or train on at least two new applications, devices, programs or services per year and share knowledge with supervisor and peers. (Training may be via webinar; hands-on experience; published media or other.)
OTHER IMPORTANT OR MARGINAL DUTIES Completes special projects and other tasks as assigned.
DIFFICULTY Independent decision making is essential. Employee in this position must be aware of the library users' needs and abilities. Matching appropriate information to the needs of the user requires creativity based on knowledge of all library resources and knowledge of resources available outside of the library as well. Work involves program planning, marketing and presenting which requires imagination, flexibility, persistence, creativity and the ability to resolve problems in front of an audience.
RESPONSIBILITY: Supervision Received The employee works autonomously, without supervision, unless special circumstances arise where guidance must be sought.

EQUIPMENT AND TOOLS USED Personal computers, word processing software, spreadsheet software, database software, SIRSI Library Management System, and the Internet are among the equipment and tools used in this position.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS Work is performed mainly indoors. Desk work, standing, walking, concentration, and computer work are some of the physical and mental demands of the position.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of general library principles and philosophy; library services, i.e. children's, adult, reference, media, technology, outreach; PCs and of the online catalog , including borrower services, circulation services, and bibliographic services; LeRoy Collins Leon County Public Library policies and procedures; collection development and management; supervisory techniques; organizing and directing the work of others; motivating staff to provide excellent customer service; communicating courteously, efficiently and effectively over the phone and in person with a diverse population; resolve problems as it relates to public or staff; develop and implement programs; communicate clearly orally and in writing. Cataloging experience preferred.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Masters Degree in Library Science or Information Studies from an ALA-accredited graduate program OR a Bachelor's degree AND proof of attaining a Master's degree, within 4 months, in Library Science or Information Studies from an ALA-accredited university.
Necessary Special Requirements: Possession of a valid Class "E" State of Florida Driver's License with a favorable driving record.
Must be able to workdays, evenings, and weekends.
