Job Summary: The overall purpose of this job is to provide college level instruction to students taking economics courses. The successful candidate for this position must be qualified to teach all economics courses that are or may be offered.
Essential Job Functions:
65% Teach college courses in Economics.
5% Provide academic advising to Business (BUSN, ENTR, HMGT) students.
5% Order and track departmental program supplies and other items as required and maintain appropriate inventory(ies).
5% Develop curriculum in ECON courses as well as, BUSN, ENTR, HMGT program and produce appropriate assessment and accreditation reports.
5% Serve the college and community as appropriate in a faculty member role.
5% Engage in on-going professional development activities especially those related to accreditation of the Business program.
5% Work with approved local organizations and venues to assure that students engage in and lead real-world events as part of their college coursework.
5% Other duties as assigned.
Key Result Areas: Continued accreditation of the Business program.
Number of graduates earning Associate of Applied Science or certificates in Business concentrations.
A level of teaching, service, and professional development appropriate to the faculty rank.
Job Requirements:
Required: Master's degree or higher in the teaching discipline (may include many economics degrees or concentrations as approved by the department dean). The minimum acceptable education level is a Master's degree in a business discipline with at least 18 graduate hours specifically designated as economics courses on the candidate's official transcript.
The ideal candidate will have two or more years of community college teaching experience in a Business program that includes economics. Multiple part-time community college teaching experiences may be combined. (Part-time work experience is calculated at 50% of full-time experience.)
Special Skills/Application of Knowledge: Familiarity with ACBSP accreditation is expected. Previous experience teaching college level economics courses is highly preferred.
Financial Impact: Due to the nature of supplies for a Business program, there is a high degree of possible waste. In addition, should the incumbent fail to properly supervise the student use of specialty equipment and tools there would be a loss risk due to inattentiveness.
Budgetary: The position requires the ability to place appropriate supply orders and to make equipment purchase recommendations. Purchases are approved in advance by the supervisor and dean.
Judgement and Decisions: The position requires the ability to place supply orders on a regular basis and to make instant decisions regarding substitute items without approval. Proposed supplies and tools based on courses being offered would be approved by the supervisor and dean in advance. Equipment purchases would certainly be reviewed by the dean.
Personal Contacts: Significant contacts with local employers, suppliers and other Business professionals is expected.
Nature of Contacts: The nature of contacts includes: to provide or get information, to discuss and seek understanding, to persuade, to negotiate, to obtain course supplies, and resolve conflicts.
Physical Demands: This position requires the ability to stand, walk, sit, manipulate computer equipment and instruments with the hands, operate a variety of equipment, and generally be mobile 100% of the time while on and between campuses. The position requires the ability to lift equipment or supplies (which could include items weighing up to 25 pounds).
Audible Demands: This position requires the ability to hear. In a Business environment, this position must be able to hear a student who has injured theirself and requires immediate medical attention. The position requires the ability to communicate orally with others in the English language and to understand responses given.
Visual Demands: This position requires visual acuity. In an active Business lab or activity with multiple students engaged in different tasks, this position must be able to observe and stop any activity that is potentially dangerous or poses a risk to health and safety.
Color Perception: The position requires the ability to determine if equipment is properly installed (including various wiring differentiated by color). The position must be able to visually judge student work effectively.
Environmental Conditions: This position requires the ability to drive a vehicle, and work both indoors and outdoors. The work environment is usually either a Business lab or a classroom. Faculty members teach on at least two campuses each semester.
Hazards: This position requires the ability to make electrical connections using a wide variety of plugs and connectors. The position places the incumbent at minimal risk provided the incumbent takes reasonable precautions.
