JOB OBJECTIVE:
Faculty Member - salary commensurate with experience. The successful candidate will be expected to teach Associate of Applied Science courses in Civil Engineering, Surveying and Construction related classes/laboratories, create instructional materials and laboratory experiences, contribute to management of labs, and equipment, update course syllabi and curriculum as necessary to remain current with the industry, promote the Civil and Construction Engineering program through local, regional and national engagement, participate in program assessment activities related to accreditation, certification and grant parameters, attend all advisory board meetings, develop/maintain industry connections, and other activities to assure success of the program and the department. The successful candidate will also perform duties to include student advising, evaluate student learning, maintain class records on college system, recruitment, committee participation, community service and other departmental activities.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
50% A. Create instructional materials and laboratory experiences and teach courses at a variety of times in response to institutional needs, evaluate students' progress toward achievement of stated student learning outcomes and inform them in a timely manner of their progress in the course, contribute to management of labs, and equipment, develop or update course syllabi for courses within the college guideline and curriculum as necessary to remain current with the industry, reviews, evaluates, and recommends student learning materials.
20% B. Responsible for professional development and institutional service as determined in consultation with the Dean. Work with other faculty, staff, and local industries and organizations to continually refine and improve the Civil and Construction Engineering program. Such duties to be performed include: developing new course materials or courses as required to maintain program currency in emerging technologies in the field of Civil Engineering and the development of course work associated with it; completing assessment requirements relative to the program; engaging members of an active advisory board; participate in evaluating and preparing articulation agreements and prior learning assessments.
10% C. Provides access to students through posted office hours, electronic communication and other appropriate methods, serve on internal and external committees for the College and the community at large. Work with Business and Community Services department to develop workforce solutions within the area of Civil Engineering.
10% D. Involvement in ATMAE accreditation process, writing grant proposals related to program goals and objectives as well as participate in grant activities
5% E. Share responsibility for day-to-day operation and routine upkeep of classrooms, labs, and equipment. Perform related duties as assigned.
5% F. Recruitment of new students. Along with other duties as assigned.

JOB STANDARDS:
Master's Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or closely related area from a regionally accredited institution or be in pursuit of Master's Degree to be completed within three years of employment.
18 graduate semester hours in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or closely related area or pursuit of 18 graduate hours in progress to be completed within two years of employment.
Minimum of 3 years of relevant industrial experience, and/or experience in related research and development, and/or experience teaching civil engineering technology-based classes.
Higher education teaching experience. (Community College teaching experience, or a clear commitment to the community college ethos, and experience teaching online preferred.).
Possessing an understanding of equity issues related to minoritized student persistence and success is highly valued.
CRITICAL SKILLS/EXPERTISE/EXPERIENCE:
Broad, current industry knowledge and practical applied experience in the field of Civil Engineering, Construction Management and Construction Industry are required along with the ability to translate those knowledge and skill sets into a meaningful learning experience in a classroom or laboratory setting. A willingness to participate as a team member to realize the overall goals of the Program and Department, as well as to prepare students for the workplace and lifelong learning opportunities. A strong desire to work with students and to help them achieve success is required. Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
JOB LOCATION:
The Civil Engineering program is located primarily at the Hardin Valley Campus of Pellissippi State Community College but some classes may be taught at our other locations. Travel within our two-county service area may be required. Teaching assignment may include day, evening, on-line or hybrid as needed.
EQUIPMENT:
The Civil and Construction Engineering program has a full time lab technician that oversees the upkeep of lab materials and surveying equipment, however a general knowledge or willingness to learn operation of such equipment is expected.
