Responsibilities
The Senior Engineering Technician provides high level technical support in a variety of specialty areas including Computer Aided Drafting & Design (CAD) operation/Geographical Information System (GIS) design, special assessment process, records management, customer service both internal and external, and plan review. The primary position responsibilities and areas of impact are:
Provides support to the division as it relates to the pavement management system including assistance with project planning and scheduling, outreach to other divisions or departments, and ensuring records are kept up to date.
Gathers information for long-term planning and budgeting to assist with and support Capital Improvement Projects.
Coordinates the special assessment process, legal descriptions/documents and easement/right-of-way vacation process.
Assists with Municipal State Aid system mapping and certification, council agenda items, bidding assistance, and various engineering and financial reports.
Performs plan review of public infrastructure and assists the building inspections division with permit review and records requests.
Serves as a resource to others inside and outside of the division related to asset and records management using the Citys records management system and mapping.
Develops engineering drawings, construction plans and various drawings/maps utilizing AutoCAD and other related computer application to provide assistance to the division and to other departments.
While these areas are the primary focus of this position, we believe strongly in teamwork and employees will be called upon to perform a variety of duties as a part of their role with the City.
Requirements
Associates degree in civil engineering, land surveying, AutoCAD technical drawing or related field required.
Minimum of five years of experience in the field of municipal engineering including engineering practices, design, methods of construction, math, problem solving skills and surveying required.
Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) required.
Ability to operate within AutoCAD system preferred.
Most work involves a normal office environment. However, several outdoor activities occur where you are exposed to traffic impacts, construction and grading equipment, noise, dust, weather, etc. where safety equipment is required. Physical efforts include mobility around an office environment; outdoor activities such as observing and navigating on, around and through public and private infrastructure (streets, utilities, buildings, etc.); meeting with property owners; and visiting construction sites, grading sites, and various environmental areas. The position requires an ability to operate survey/outdoor equipment. Mental efforts include the ability to balance and prioritize multiple projects and initiatives with frequent work interruptions or changes in priorities.
Candidates must successfully complete and pass the Citys evaluation of the pre-employment process prior to their first day of employment. Pre-employment processes for this position include professional reference checks, background check, work verification and education verification, drivers check (must have valid drivers license and excellent driving record).
