Role:

The individual will be primarily responsible for analyzing the legal documentation of more complex structured finance transactions, producing publishable research, and undertaking special projects intended to enhance Moody's credit analytics and research. The candidate will be expected to participate in group credit discussions and offer his or her analysis of the potential credit impact of the terms of the transaction documents.

Responsibilities:


  • Conduct legal analysis and review for more complex and esoteric structured finance transactions and asset-level documents for the purpose of determining credit risk and ratings

  • Represent the team in operational reviews, issuer and investor meetings and other forms of outreach including dialogue related to transaction legal analysis

  • Write publishable research, including transaction-related reports, articles and in-depth reports on credit issues affecting the industry

  • Active contributor in team-wide legal analytics discussions and resolutions, and their related research and outreach

  • Demonstrate a solid command of relevant rating methodologies and a knowledge of rating methodologies used by other Structured Finance Group teams

  • As needed, produce reports that summarize asset-level representations, warranties and enforcement mechanisms, along with comparisons to the relevant benchmarks, for structured finance transactions

  • When needed, the individual may join the lead analyst of the transaction to conduct transparency dialogue with market participants explaining our view of legal provisions in certain transactions or sectors

  • Maintain a thorough understanding of relevant industry dynamics and nuances, and current trends affecting the industries and represent Moody's to market participants on these topics as a credible expert

  • Coach and develop junior analysts on the team

  • Provide training as needed to team members and SFG staff

  • Help onboard new legal analytical members, including participating in recruiting

Qualifications:


  • Law degree with 8 to 10 years overall experience including at least 7 years of legal experience in structured finance

  • Solid working experience on various legal documents for structured transactions

  • Strong analytical orientation

  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills

  • Sound judgment and highest ethical standards

  • Capable of developing independent opinions and defending own views clearly and succinctly

  • Professional, pro-active, collaborative, responsive

  • Highly organized and efficient, with ability to multi-task and meet tight deadlines

  • Strong team work skills and work well with colleagues with different viewpoints

  • Ability to work on own initiative, without the need for close supervision ability to supervise junior analysts

For US-based roles only: the anticipated hiring base salary range for this position is [[$192,500 - [[$279,200, depending on factors such as experience, education, level, skills, and location. This range is based on a full-time position. In addition to base salary, this role is eligible for incentive compensation.
