Position Summary:

The department of nursing is seeking a full-time program director to provide direction and oversight of all activities within the nursing department. Academic advising, budget management, clinical site coordination, curriculum development, evaluation, and purchasing are an integral part of this position.

Essential Responsibilities:



  1. Conduct, coordinate, track, report and make recommendations to programmatic assessment outcomes to meet the criteria for the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) and the Illinois Department of Financial & Professional Regulation (IDFPR).

  2. Collaborate with Dual Admission Programs and articulating BSN institutions to provide clear pathway options for program graduates to continue their educations.

  3. Endorse candidates for the Program Advisory Committee, organize annual meetings, create and distribute meeting minutes to Program Advisory Committee members to all Program Advisory Committee stakeholders, ensuring follow-up on recommended changes.

  4. Manage programmatic annual budget and provide space utilization direction, including renovations for the lab spaces.

  5. Evaluate the scheduling requirements of the program based on students' needs and make recommendations on the master schedule to the Division Dean and Academic Affairs.

  6. Interview and hire faculty, laboratory assistants, and tutors to support the programmatic needs in the classroom and at clinical locations.

  7. Order programmatic instructional materials for faculty; set up a Castlebranch account for faculty drug testing; and oversee equipment maintenance, inventory, and proper ordering of programmatic equipment and supplies through the purchase order request process.

  8. Advise on instructional expectations, conduct classroom observations while providing timely feedback, and mentor faculty while supervising tutors, to enhance student learning.

  9. Maintain all programmatic data, including student files, while ensuring early intervention is taken for at-risk students to support program retention and performing regular in-person meetings with all first-year students.

  10. Serves as department liaison for the program to maintain clinical relationships within the community by being the primary point of contact with clinical site educators.

  11. Secures the clinical placements for faculty and students; creates clinical rosters/spreadsheets; distributes clinical rosters/spreadsheets to faculty and clinical educators; and monitors the students' completion of required electronic training.

  12. Advise adjuncts on clinical expectations, conduct clinical observations while providing timely feedback, and mentor adjuncts on clinical policies to enhance student learning.

  13. Update the clinical instructor manual, distributed information accordingly, and keep adjuncts informed of on-campus clinical days.

  14. Collect all clinical evaluations, analyze the evaluations, complete the cumulative clinical evaluation tool, and file the clinical evaluations in the students' files.

  15. Attend regular meetings with available clinical site educators to coordinate placements, maintain relationships, communicate updates, make site visits as needed, and serve as a resource.

  16. Attend and serve as a member of the nursing program's advisory committee meeting.













Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

Employee is subject to indoor work, protected from weather conditions. Work is sedentary in nature and involves exerting up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently/constantly in order to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. This position requires flexible scheduling, including evening and weekend hours.



Minimum Qualifications:



  1. Master Degree in Nursing.

  2. Two years' experience as a practicing nurse.

  3. Two years' leadership experience

  4. Valid Illinois and Indiana Nursing License.

  5. Working knowledge of an Associate Degree Nursing Program/Philosophy.

  6. Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.

  7. Effective interpersonal skills necessary to interface with students and the general public.

  8. Demonstrated proficiency in the use of computers and their common instructional applications.

  9. Excellent analytical skills.

  10. Compliance with ACEN standards and competencies.










Preferred Qualifications:



  1. One year program leadership in nursing.

  2. Knowledge/experience in medical/surgical clinical settings.
