This position is integral in enhancing the enrollment, recruitment, and retention of students from under resourced populations at Prairie State College. This individual will serve as this group of students' primary point of contact and will design and implement programs and strategies aimed at enhancing student access and success as well as dedicated support to target groups, including but not limited to: Black/African American, Hispanic/Latine, Male, LGBTQIA+, and One Million Degrees Scholars. This professional will meet with current and prospective Prairie State College students, both individually and in groups to assist them with college enrollment, academic/career planning and course scheduling. This person will develop and coordinate educational programming for the PEACE Center and serve as an internal champion and ambassador for equity and inclusion. These duties require that the Coordinator of the PEACE Center be able to communicate effectively with individuals and groups in both on- and off-campus settings as well as develop tools and measures to evaluate the effectiveness of programs and provide outcome reporting on a regular basis.
Direct reporting relationship to the Director of Pride Equity Access Cultural Exchange (PEACE) Center.
1. Work directly with the Director and other areas within the Student Affairs division to ensure that identified goals and objectives regarding retention and graduation of all student populations, particularly those of the PEACE Center are met.2. Plan, develop, and implement student support and enrichment programs, workshops, and initiatives that meet the needs of targeted populations at Prairie State College.3. Collaborate with faculty to offer additional programs and services designed to address the experience for PEACE center students and make improvements towards closing the achievement gap where needed.4. Maintains detailed records of student participation in PEACE Center programming and events monitors the academic progress of participants, and provides intervention for those placed at-risk.5. Assist the Director with program review and evaluation; Maintain detailed data on support and programming provided to prospective and current students as well as feedback from surveys and focus groups.6. Coordinate and implement aspects of Peace Center events, which may include limited weekend and overnight experiences.7. May provide necessary support to a student club as well as serve as the club's advisor in the future.8. Refer students as appropriate to faculty, counselors, and other College personnel as needed.9. Perform recruiting activities including representing the College both on- and off-campus at target high schools, college/career programs, events hosted by the college such as Open House, and other events.10. Provide academic advising services to students and prospective students including meeting with students from target groups and helping them transition into the College community, with a hyper focus on male-identifying students.11. Develop a working knowledge of College policies, procedures, and academic programs, with special attention to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) educational services.12. Support and participate in both the in-classroom and out-of-classroom lives (where appropriate) of PEACE Center students in order to enhance the development and learning experiences of this student group in particular.13. Build and maintain positive relationships with faculty and other College personnel to ensure coherence and mutual reinforcement of PSC's mission and values.14. Teach students to effectively utilize career exploration systems, Transfer Center, and other resources in pursuit of occupational guidance or other information.15. Perform other duties as required or assigned that are reasonable within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
The employee typically works indoors in an environment protected from the weather. Travel is required to lead/chaperone college trips and cultural or social activities for the target population. Physical activities include the ability to carry materials sometimes weighing up to 40 pounds.
Graduate degree in Education or related field.
Experience working with a culturally diverse population.
Monday - Friday, 8:00a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
