Position Summary:

The Division of Hematology/Oncology provides medical care to the people of North Carolina; serves as a referral center for patients from throughout the United States and worldwide; educates medical school undergraduates, residents and fellows in the subspecialties of Hematology and Oncology; and advances scholarly research and laboratory and clinical investigations in the health sciences. The activities of the Division are diverse and complex, with an annual budget of over $15 million and a staff of approximately 90 (approximately 55 in 2005). The patient care activities are broad in scope. Long-term care requires interaction of all members of the health care team. Care is provided in seven outpatient clinics (breast, lung, leukemia/lymphoma, bone marrow transplant, prostate, sickle cell and thrombosis/hemostasis clinics), in the hospital bone marrow transplant unit and two inpatient services.


The Comprehensive Sickle Cell Program was created to provide comprehensive care to patients with various sickle cell syndromes. Sickle cell disease affects approximately 100,000 people in the United States and is most prevalent in young, African American and Latino populations. Our Sickle Cell Clinical Program is staffed by professionals with a commitment to providing the best possible care to patients with sickle cell disease. The adult and pediatric sickle cell staff provides services to more than 300 adults and 250 children annually at our clinics in Chapel Hill.


The program seeks to hire a clinician to provide evidence-based psychotherapy treatment to sickle cell patients. This position requires a candidate with a demonstrated ability to work within an interdisciplinary team and with a unique patient population. More specific requirements of the position are listed below.
o Provide evidence-based psychotherapy to patients of the program with mental health concerns.
o Staff two day clinics each week through UNC Benign Hematology Clinic, with a goal of 8 scheduled patients per week. X RVUs.
o Standardize mental health screenings in patient population and collect data for quality improvement.
o Provide clinical supervision to the program's LCSWA.
o Collaborate with providers and staff to aid in care coordination.
o Attending staff meeting on the 1st Tuesday of each month to provide updates on treatment plans and input on mental health needs of patients.
o Keep timely treatment notes.


Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in a Human Services discipline with coursework related to the area of assignment. Some positions may require certification to practice as a certified or licensed Clinical Social Worker as required by the North Carolina Social Work Certification Board.
