Position Overview:
The Biology Department at the University of Central Oklahoma is seeking a non-tenure track lecturer who is committed to excellence in teaching and who will coordinate the Human Physiology labs. Lecturers provide a quality learning experience for students and perform instruction-related duties and responsibilities in a timely manner in accordance with the mission, policies, and procedures of the college. The relationship of the lecturer faculty member to the students is one of teacher and facilitator of learning. The lecturer will prepare and coordinate weekly labs, teach, evaluate student performance, and maintain department and student records in accordance with university policies. The lecturer will adhere to the educational philosophy of the university and work in a collaborative manner with colleagues and professional peers. Additionally, the lecturer will participate in university meetings that relate specifically to the faculty, serve on department, college, and university committees as requested, as well as prepare departmental reports as requested.
College/Department Overview:
The College of Mathematics and Science currently has 128 full-time and over 70 part-time faculty in six academic departments and the School of Engineering. The College serves more than 3,300 undergraduate students in 30 majors and provides graduate programs in Biology, Computer Science, Data Science, Cybersecurity, Applied Mathematics and Computer Science, Applied Mathematical Science, Engineering, Computational Science, and Nursing. Accreditation/Certification is held by ABET, the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), the American Board of Funeral Service Education, and the American Chemical Society. Department Specific Essential Job Functions:
The successful candidate will be expected to teach day/evening courses in Human Physiology (lecture and lab). Courses may also include Biology for Majors, General Biology for non-majors, and Mammalian Physiology. Candidates must be willing to teach in a variety of formats (face-to-face, hybrid, and online as needed). Service responsibilities will include the weekly set up and coordination of Human Physiology laboratories, modifying and updating the lab manual as needed, and maintenance of the Human Physiology lab D2L page.
Experience/Education Required:
An earned master's degree or doctorate in Biology or related field from a regionally accredited or internationally recognized institution is required (exceptions require Academic Affairs approval). Demonstrable oral and excellent technical written communication skills required.
Experience/Education Preferred:
Experience teaching Human Physiology, Biology, and related courses at the undergraduate level preferred.
Knowledge/Skills Abilities:
Reports to the Chair of the Department and the Dean of the College.
