POSITION SUMMARY:

Postdoctoral fellowship positions are available in the Halde lab at the USF Health Heart Institute as part of Morsani College of Medicine. Interested candidates will work with lab members on one or more cardiac lipid metabolism research projects in the lab investigating the cellular and molecular mechanisms that immune cell dysregulation in the genesis of chronic inflammation in human disease. The lab employs in-vitro, ex-vivo, mouse cardiac and metabolic studies Ongoing projects include studies into multi-organ untargeted and targeted lipidomics the roles of lipid mediators in the regulation of immune responsive lipid metabolic gene expression in normal and diseased cardiovascular systems. Building on these studies, projects to investigate new therapeutic approaches for the treatment of cardiovascular disease are envisioned.

Postdoctoral fellows are expected to develop projects/methods together with the PI (Dr. Halade). Postdocs are expected to demonstrate independence in the analytical methodology, data analyses, use of informatics software for data analyses, oversight, and implementation of the daily activities required for the conduct of the omics research program with guidance from the PI as needed. The PI will work with the postdocs to ensure their career development and has an excellent track record of trainees that have transitioned to successful academic and industry positions.

DUTIES:


  • Conduct research on high performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) measurements (Sciex6500-MS instrumentation) and computational data-mining/statistical analyses/biological information network generation.
  • Optimize extraction methodology, protocols, and perform mass spectrometry omics measurements on a variety of samples for the inflammation-resolution biology in heart failure.
  • Assist TEAM members and collaborator(s) in experimental design for various bioactive lipid measurements utilizing a high-performance LC-MS/MS platform.
  • Independently design and test new approaches for improved extraction and quantitation for more comprehensive measurements.
  • Apply knowledge of lipid mediator biochemistry, with a focus on integrating multi-omics approaches-such as transcriptomics, lipidomics, and metabolomics-to investigate the roles of chronic inflammation in cancer and cardiovascular disease.
  • Engage in interdisciplinary research using heart physiology and heart failure pathology for solving biological problems for cardiovascular sciences.
  • Present method development plan, protocols, and research methods at internal meetings and at national scientific meetings
  • Organize project specific data, validate methodology, prepare/draft manuscript for peer-reviewed publications and technical reports in a timely fashion
  • Ensure compliance with environment, safety, health and quality program requirements
  • Maintain strong commitment to the implementation and perpetuation of values and ethics

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Doctoral degree from an accredited institution in biochemistry, microbiology, molecular biology, immunology, or related field. Must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of Postdoctoral Fellow.
  • Experience in the submission of manuscripts with a s trong publication record
  • Candidate must be self-motivated and independent and comfortable seeking and obtaining feedback from peers and colleagues
  • The ability to manage numerous research studies simultaneously


PREFERRED

  • The applicant should be experienced using mass spectrometry and some experienced animals preferred with exposure to tissue culture would be an asset
  • Bioinformatics and lipidomics-metabolomics (omics) training
