Position Overview:
The Senior Project Manager plays a pivotal role in overseeing and managing complex architectural projects from conception to completion. This position requires a high level of expertise in architectural project management and the ability to lead and inspire project teams to deliver exceptional results.
At AO, a Senior Project Manager is responsible for coordination of all project efforts, administrative and technical, to ensure the most efficient and cost-effective execution of assigned projects. A Senior Project Manager will be expected to estimate scope of work and fees and to oversee and offer guidance to less experienced project managers. A Senior Project Manager will be called on to handle the most complex projects of the largest magnitude and to prepare strategic plans for project success. The Senior Project Manager serves as primary liaison contact with clients to complete projects on schedule, within budget, and with maximum client satisfaction. In this position you will actively manage client budgets, schedules, and programs; project budget and schedule; project communications and documentation; project team assignments and prepares proposals and contracts on the most complex projects with support from Project and Legal Admin. The Senior Project Manager provides oversight and monitoring of work of less experienced project managers.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Leadership
Oversee the development of comprehensive project plans, including scope, schedule, budget, and resources allocation, in collaboration with the design team and stakeholders.
Client Relationship Management
Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, maintaining strong client relationships, understanding their needs, and ensuring their satisfaction throughout the project lifecycle.
Team Leadership
Build and lead project teams, including architects, designers, engineers, and support staff. Provide guidance, mentorship, and support to team members to achieve project goals.
Project Planning
Develop project plans, budgets, and schedules. Ensure efficient resource allocation and coordination of project tasks to meet project objectives.
Quality Assurance
Maintain the highest level of quality in architectural design and construction documents. Review and approve drawings, specifications, and project deliverables.
Risk Management
Identify potential project risks and develop strategies to mitigate them. Proactively address issues that may impact project success.
Financial Management
Monitor project financials, including budgets, expenditures and collections. Provide regular financial updates to senior management.
Regulatory Compliance
Ensure that all architectural projects comply with local building codes, regulations, and permitting requirements.
Progress Reporting
Provide regular progress reports to senior management and clients, highlighting project milestones, issues, and potential solutions.
Collections
Collects on relevant invoicing, works through invoicing and collection issues to satisfactory resolution and collection.
Innovation
Stay updated on industry trends and emerging technologies to incorporate innovative design and construction methods into projects.
Mentorship
Support the professional growth and development of junior architects and provide guidance in their career progression.
Organizational Cooperation and knowledge
Demonstrates understanding of, cooperates appropriately and follows appropriate guidance from leadership and internal resources such as the Functional Areas, and AO Sanctioned committees(e.g: standards committee(s)).
Qualifications:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
10+ years of proven experience as a Project Manager on Commercial projects.
Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and other industry-standard software.
Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
Excellent knowledge of architectural design principles and construction processes.
Facility with building codes, regulations, and permitting processes.
Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Ability to read, interpret, and communicate the meaning of documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Mathematical skills
Intermediate/Advanced skills: ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry with no assistance.
Reasoning and critical thinking ability
Intermediate/Advanced skills: possessed of a strong common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations with little or no supervision.
Work environment and Physical Demands:
The office environment is typical of those found in modern architectural firms with cubicles, offices, and meeting spaces. Local travel to construction sites and client locations may be required.
