The Media Innovation Lab (MIL) has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Post Doctoral Scholar to work at the UHealth campus. The MIL Training and Mentoring program brings participants to the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine for a two-year postdoctoral learning experience where they will develop independent academic careers. It uses a congruent mentorship approach whereby mentors and mentees are matched based on common research interest, background, and specialty.
CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
Assists in planning and designing research experiments, establishes priorities, and recommends schedules.
Presents research findings at local and national scientific conferences.
Writes technical publications and reports.
Designs and writes programs to perform analysis and produces written reports on results.
Collects pilot data to help support new and competing renewal applications.
Supervises undergraduate and graduate research students and performs literature reviews.
Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
Department Specific Functions
Provide fundamental training by interdisciplinary faculty in the area of informatics and health data science research using translational, population health, and health equity methods and practices.
Establish partnerships between mentors (Primary and Peer) and mentees based on mutual research interests and background
Provide individualized academic coaching to mentees while developing skills needed to develop independent research career
Support mentees in developing and presenting poster and oral presentations
Advise in developing ideas for innovative research and peer-reviewed publications
Mentor Postdocs while they develop their grant proposal (e.g., F, K, or R mechanisms)

CORE QUALIFICATIONS
MD or Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences, Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Human/Statistical Genetics, Neuroimaging, Neurosciences, or a related field (with an emphasis on data science or statistical analyses of human subjects' datasets).
Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:
Ability to clearly communicate research findings through oral presentation and written publication.
Ability to work independently and in a collaborative manner with a diverse group of scientists and clinicians.
Strong programming skills in R, Python, Bayesian machine learning, etc.
Experience using computing clusters (batch processing), cloud computing services, and containerization.
Strong skills in computer science
Experience in Artificial Intelligence (Deep learning, Transfer learning, Neural networks)
Experience tuning, applying, and evaluating large language models for information extraction, summarization, and other relevant tasks in the biomedical/clinical domain
Strong software engineering background with demonstrated experience supporting reproducible science software development best practices such as regression testing, continuous integration, containerization, etc.
Some experience with high performance computing and database administration.
Previous experience in -omics data analysis, AI-based computational modeling/virtual screening, and/or compound screening data analysis is preferred, not required.
