POSITION SUMMARY:

The Microbiologist is responsible for all technical aspects of instrumentation and testing in the micro lab. They also assist with compliance for ISO 17025 Lab Accreditation. Ensure all equipment in the micro laboratory is functional and in calibration. Come be a part of our dynamic team!

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Provide guidance and support to the Micro Analysts.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Oversee testing in the micro laboratory.

  • Authorized to calibrate, maintain and repair micro instruments which may include incubators, pH meter, autoclaves, the BAX and other specialized equipment in the lab. Instrument repairs require competence in replacement of mechanical and electrical components.

  • Authorized to install, qualify, and calibrate new lab equipment. This includes writing the protocol and final report.

  • Authorized to interpret data and instrument/method suitability.

  • Authorized to develop, write, review, revise, and validate micro methods and work instructions.

  • Research and recommend new or updated equipment, technology or test methodologies.

  • Work with QA on review of specifications, provide guidance on testing and assist with troubleshooting of customer issues.

  • Liaise with colleagues from other departments (including production, sales, R&D).

  • Provide assistance to the facility with troubleshooting process and/or food safety issues.

  • Train employees on new or revised methods and work instructions as well as equipment operation.

  • Maintain EM Program.

  • Ability to write and review SOPs, methods, work instructions and other documents related to the micro laboratory.

  • Responsible for micro method development and validation as well as instrument qualifications. 

  • Oversees laboratory workload distribution and testing methods. 

  • Assist in plant sanitation and food safety.

  • Follow safe lab practices and take an active part in implementing lab safety rules and ensure that they are followed.

  • Ensure the Micro lab maintains policies and procedures that comply with ISO 17025 standard current revision.

  • Other duties as directed.

EDUCATION:


  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in a Science related discipline, preferably Microbiology or Biology. 

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS:


  • 5 years experience in a laboratory testing environment.  

  • Prior supervisory experience. 

  • General knowledge of good laboratory practices and ISO 17025 standard.


  • Ability to make decisions independently with little supervision.




  • Proven communication, organizational, math, and computer skills.




  • Good technical and troubleshooting skills.
