Welcome patrons to Papillion Landing Community Center with a positive attitude and assist them in a variety of endeavors. As a Recreation Leader you will work at the Community Centers front desk and assist patrons with registering for programs, selling memberships, and answering general inquiries. Influence meaningful interactions and help build a community that is welcoming for all members and guests.
POSITION TITLE: Recreation Leader
REPORTS TO: Facility Manager and/or Recreation Coordinator
SUPERVISES: Part-Time, Seasonal and/or Volunteer Staff
PURPOSE OF POSITION: Responsible for performing leadership recreation work in a lead capacity or in charge of a major program area/division. Incumbent may directly supervise part-time, seasonal or volunteer staff as part of their overall duties. An incumbent will be required to work varied hours during the week, including evenings, weekends, and some holidays.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
If assigned to a major program area, responsible for supervising, planning, developing, coordinating, teaching and evaluating recreation programs through various activities including but not limited to, gathering and preparing all materials needed for activities, organize activities such as arts and crafts, games, sport activities, and other special events.
Supervises participants, patrons, and members in recreation programs and facility activities to ensure safe use of all Recreation facilities. Communicating effectively with players, volunteers, coaches, spectators, patrons, and facility members regarding facility information and desired behaviors.
Responsible for assisting in various financial activities including but not limited to stocking registers with appropriate funds, balancing daily cash drawers, collecting membership or program fees, and completing all necessary financial documentation.
Supervises part-time, seasonal, or volunteer staff involved in their major program area through various activities including but not limited to scheduling work, assigning work duties, monitoring job performance, and recommending disciplinary actions.
Assists the Facility Manager and/or Recreation Coordinator in the orientation of new staff and staff meetings. Attends regularly scheduled staff meetings and training sessions as required.
Responsible for general clerical work including but not limited to answering phone calls from a multi-line phone system, routine data processing, and using computer software to input various information regarding facility memberships, program information, and activities.
Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations and programs, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality programs, services and seamless customer service.
Represents the citys Recreation Department in a positive manner; responsible for adhering to and enforcing rules and regulations to ensure a safe and enjoyable environment; refers individuals who fail to comply with regulations to the immediate supervisor.
Responsible for ensuring the compliance of departmental policies regarding hygiene, health, safety and sanitation procedures.
Keeps all supervised areas and immediate work areas clean and orderly. Maintain appearance and overall environment of all facilities by completing daily tasks. Notifies maintenance and custodial staff as needed to resolve facility issues.
Reports complaints, problems, and needs concerning patrons, facility members and program participants to supervisor. Refers citizen complaints to their immediate supervisor for resolution.
Prepares accident and incident reports and communicates all incidents promptly to their immediate supervisor.
Operates various equipment and city vehicles safely, adhering to all legal guidelines in the operation of the equipment and city vehicles.
Establishes and maintains positive public relations, demonstrating exceptional customer service, when interacting with community groups, the general public, program participants, facility members, and other employees.
Participates in citywide special events as needed.

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND ABILITY:
Ability to use principles and methods in organizing, conducting, and supervising recreational programs and activities.
Ability to learn and use fiscal controls needed to handle recreational funds.
Ability to train, direct, and evaluate employees and volunteers involved in program work.
Ability to learn and detect health and safety hazards and to apply necessary precautions as related to duties performed.
Ability to learn and apply city and department policies dealing with facility memberships, recreation programs and activities, emergency situations and/or general inquiries from the public and/or other co-workers.
Ability to communicate and deal with the general public in a courteous and tactful manner.
Ability to accurately prepare various records and reports in accordance with established procedures.
Must possess a considerable amount of knowledge regarding technology and feel comfortable and confident completing tasks within a variety of computer software programs.
Ability to perform job duties efficiently while managing frequent interruptions and/or dealing with stressful or potentially hazardous situations.
Ability to understand and follow both oral and written instructions.
Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing, in English.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, other employees, and municipal officials.
Ability to maintain regular and dependable attendance on the job, including attendance and job performance for possibly prolonged periods of time when called out on short notice due to weather conditions, emergencies and similar situations of public necessity.
ESSENTIAL EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION AND/OR LICENSES:
1. Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age at the time of hire.
2. Must have valid drivers license.
3. Must be able to obtain a CPR/AED/First Aid certification within a time frame established by the employer.
4. Must maintain all certifications as required.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work may be performed in both an outdoor and indoor environment, with the employee being exposed to extremely sunny, rainy, hot, cold, and humid conditions and other fluctuations in the weather. Work required is continual physical activity, including walking, standing, kneeling, bending, crouching, reaching, stooping, lifting and carrying objects unassisted up to 50 lbs. The incumbent may be required to frequently talk, listen, sit, or stand for extended periods of time.
While performing the duties, the incumbent is required to use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects or controls. Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate pieces of equipment. Vision abilities required include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level is usually moderate to high but may even be intense depending on the scheduled activity.
Work requires extensive interaction with the general public and other community groups and may be stressful when dealing with irate citizens, parents, patrons, facility members, and program participants.
