The Application Engineer is a technical expert supporting sales and business development with a strong understanding of controls, power systems, and microgrid technologies who supports the sales team by developing and vetting technical solutions during project feasibility analysis and proposing innovative energy solutions.
This role designs and optimizes electrical and control systems for CHP, generator, BESS, and microgrid projects, ensuring alignment with customer requirements and industry standards. A Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred, reflecting the technical leadership required for this position.
Key Responsibilities:
Feasibility Analysis & System Design:
Perform feasibility studies to evaluate the technical and economic viability of proposed onsite power projects, including CHP systems, generators, and BESS.
Design and specify electrical and control systems, including switchgear, transformers, PLCs, and SCADA integrations.
Develop detailed one-line diagrams, schematics, and equipment layouts to support system proposals.
Pre-Sales Technical Support:
Collaborate with sales teams to provide technical expertise and ensure client requirements are accurately captured in proposals.
Prepare cost estimates, technical documentation, and compliance reports for system designs.
Participate in client meetings to present technical solutions and address questions or concerns.
Project Handover:
Create comprehensive design packages, including all technical specifications and feasibility analyses, for transition to the project management team at contract signing.
Communicate project requirements and ensure alignment between sales, engineering, and project execution teams.
Technical Expertise & Collaboration:
Partner with equipment vendors and suppliers to select components that meet project specifications.
Stay updated on industry standards, codes, and emerging technologies, such as NEC, IEEE, and advancements in power systems and control technologies.
Provide guidance and mentorship to internal teams on electrical and control systems.
Required Qualifications and Skills:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in power generation, CHP systems, or energy storage, focusing on electrical and control system design.
Expertise in electrical systems, including power distribution, switchgear, transformers, and grid interconnection.
Proficiency in control systems such as PLCs, SCADA, and automation.
Experience with electrical design software like AutoCAD, ETAP, or SKM.
Familiarity with industry codes and standards, including NEC and IEEE.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for optimized system design.
Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration with internal teams and clients.
Proven ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Willingness to travel to client sites as required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Professional Engineer (PE) license.
Additional certifications such as Certified Energy Manager (CEM) or Project Management Professional (PMP).
