DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: The work of this class involves responsibility for the
efficient operation of specialized heavy automotive equipment used in maintenance and construction projects.
Greater skill is required than in the operation of lighter types of equipment and there is greater responsibility for
the safety to others. Additional responsibility is involved for making minor repairs to equipment and for ordinary
servicing. Supervision is received from a superior, who assigns tasks and inspects the work in process and
upon completion. The vehicle operator may be required to perform maintenance tasks or to supervise a crew
as a special assignment. The incumbent does related work as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must meet the minimum qualifications at time of application.
Either:
(A) One (1) year of experience in the operation of specialized or heavy motor equipment; OR
(B) Two (2) years of experience in the operation of mechanical automotive equipment.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Eligibility for New York State Commercial Driver's License (CDL) at the time of application. Possession
of a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B or higher without airbrake restriction at the time
of appointment and throughout duration of appointment.
2. Eligibility for One Person Plowing (OPP) certification at time of appointment and possession of One
Person Plowing (OPP) Certificate within one (1) year from appointment date and maintained
throughout duration of appointment.
3. Certain assignments made to employees in this class will require access to transportation to meet
field work requirements in a timely and efficient manner.
NOTE: Verifiable part-time experience will be pro-rated toward meeting full-time requirements.
