This is a hybrid position. Candidates should be comfortable working onsite Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays and remotely on Mondays and Fridays.
Once per month, there will be local travel to the South Region (Joliet, Bolingbrook, Mokena, Manhattan, University Park, Crestwood, etc.) for site visits.
This is a typical first shift position. Core office hours are 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM.
Overview & Responsibilities
Our client, a leading utility provider, is seeking a Project Manager to support their South Region Facility Relocation Team. This is a contract role focused on overseeing projects that involve the relocation of electric utility infrastructure to facilitate public infrastructure improvements, such as road widening, new street lighting installations, and other municipal projects. The Project Manager will handle the full project lifecycle, coordinating between internal teams, external contractors, and public agencies to ensure projects are completed on time, within scope, and in alignment with safety and regulatory standards.
Key responsibilities include:
Lead and manage approximately 5 utility relocation projects concurrently, from design and planning through construction and project closeout.
Collaborate with municipalities, state agencies, and internal stakeholders to align project goals and timelines.
Oversee the design and development of relocation plans for utility infrastructure, ensuring feasibility and compliance with project requirements.
Coordinate with internal construction teams and external contractors (civil engineering and electrical) to execute relocation activities.
Review and evaluate contract proposals for civil and electrical work, ensuring clear definitions of the scope of work and minimal exceptions.
Manage the contract requisition process, including routing approvals and tracking documentation.
Provide oversight on the interpretation of civil plans and technical drawings to ensure accurate project execution.
Monitor project progress, update schedules, and deliver regular status reports to key stakeholders.
Resolve project issues, facilitate communication among stakeholders, and ensure adherence to safety and regulatory standards.
Oversee project closeout activities, including final inspections, documentation, and post-project evaluations.
Required Skills & Experience
Bachelor's degree and 3+ years of project management experience in civil construction or civil engineering projects.
8+ years of project management experience.
Strong proficiency in reading and interpreting civil engineering plans and technical documents.
Experience reviewing contract proposals and managing requisition releases.
Proficiency with project management software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera P6) and MS Office Suite.
Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Skills & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical).
Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
Demonstrated experience managing utility relocation projects or similar infrastructure initiatives.
Familiarity with public infrastructure projects and working with municipal or state agencies.
Knowledge of construction safety standards and regulatory compliance.
Experience managing cross-functional teams, including internal resources and external contractors.
