JOB TITLE: LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System) MANAGER

LOCATION: Watertown, MA; On-Site; Full Time

We are seeking a hands-on and detail-oriented LIMS Manager to oversee a custom-built Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) within our client's CLIA-certified medical diagnostics lab. Our client is committed to advancing laboratory innovation, focusing on delivering accurate and timely diagnostic results to improve patient outcomes. This role requires expertise in backend development and cloud management, making it an ideal fit for someone with a blend of programming skills and cloud architecture experience.

You will serve as the primary contact for IT-related support, troubleshooting issues and resolving inquiries from lab staff. You will be responsible for maintaining system performance, implementing enhancements, and ensuring all processes align with CLIA, HIPAA, and CAP compliance standards. As a LIMS Manager, you will collaborate closely with lab staff, the quality assurance team, and leadership to understand their needs, translating these into actionable technical solutions. You'll manage project roadmaps, optimize processes, and drive continuous improvements within the LIMS.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

System Management & Development:
  • Oversee and maintain the LIMS system, ensuring optimal performance, security, and functionality.
  • Focus on Laravel for backend development and AWS for cloud services management.
  • Handle minor customization tasks, such as modifying workflows or writing scripts, with a working knowledge of PHP.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for outsourced development, particularly for large-scale projects or new customer integrations.

Project Leadership:
  • Lead new assay setups and customer integrations, managing the process from initial configuration through deployment.
  • Develop and manage a product optimization roadmap, ensuring projects are properly planned and sequenced to avoid excessive workload spikes.
  • Work iteratively, learning with each new assay or customer integration and building a more streamlined process for future setups.

Documentation & Training:
  • Build out system architecture documentation, user training guides, and change release notes.
  • Own the development and organization of a backlog list, ensuring that all user requests and system improvements are documented and tracked.
  • Create training sessions for lab staff, ensuring they understand and can effectively use LIMS functionalities.

Compliance & Data Management:

Collaborate with the Quality Manager and Project Management Office (PMO) to ensure that the LIMS aligns with CLIA, HIPAA, and CAP requirements.

Pull reports and make system or data adjustments as needed for compliance and audits.

Support the team in preparing for audits and responding to CAPAs (Corrective and Preventive Actions) post-audit.

User Support & Workflow Optimization:
  • Provide daily user support, troubleshooting issues and resolving inquiries from lab staff.
  • Manage IT inventory, ensuring that all IT-related equipment and services are maintained and available for lab operations.
  • Engage with users to understand their needs, translating these into actionable changes or optimizations in the LIMS.
  • Focus on continuous improvement of system workflows and user experience, ensuring that the platform evolves with the lab's needs.

IDEAL CANDIDATE PROFILE:
  • Technical Depth & Adaptability: Someone with a solid grasp of Laravel and AWS, capable of quickly learning new programming languages or technologies using resources like ChatGPT.
  • Lab Experience: Experience working in a CLIA-certified lab is preferred, with a strong understanding of lab workflows and compliance processes.
  • Proactive Problem-Solver: A self-starter who can take initiative in identifying and solving system challenges, while also supporting user needs and optimizing workflows.
  • Strong Communication & Soft Skills: Able to actively listen to user requests, discern core requirements, and communicate effective solutions. Not just an order taker, but someone who brings a sense of ownership to the platform.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Computer Science, IT, Laboratory Science).
  • 5+ years' experience in a medical diagnostics lab environment, with a focus on LIMS or similar systems.
  • Proven experience with Laravel for backend management and AWS for cloud service integration.
  • Proficiency with SQL-based databases (e.g., Postgres) and familiarity with data visualization tools like Cluvio.
  • Ability to write and modify code in PHP or similar languages, with a willingness to learn and adapt quickly using tools like ChatGPT.
  • Strong documentation skills and experience managing product roadmaps and user training.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and communication skills, with a knack for translating user needs into system improvements.
  • Provide technical support for internal users, helping optimize workflows and ensure smooth day-to-day system operations.

BENEFITS:
  • $100K - $120K DOE
  • Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance: Comprehensive coverage through Cigna and Principal, with low employee contributions.
  • Telemedicine Access: 24/7/365 access to board-certified doctors via Teladoc at no copay, providing convenient care options.
  • Life and Disability Insurance: Company-paid life and long-term disability insurance, offering financial security for employees.
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP): Access to confidential counseling services for employees and their families, including up to 5 free sessions.
  • Retirement Savings Plan: Opportunities to save for the future with a company-sponsored retirement plan.
