An opportunity exists for a driven and outcomes focused engineer or scientist to join Fortescue's recently established Colorado Innovation Center. Reporting to the Manager of Colorado Innovation Center, the Principal, R&D Delivery position will work directly with technical subject matter experts to support the identification, development, and delivery of technology research programs across our portfolio.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership:
Assist with developing and implementing R&D strategy in alignment with the company's overall goals.
Lead cross-functional teams to drive innovation and ensure successful project delivery.
Project and Portfolio Management:
Work with technical program leads to oversee the planning, execution, and completion of R&D projects.
Identify and implement opportunities to accelerate R&D programs to commercial impact.
Assist with management of the R&D portfolio including implementation of tools to report progress and performance.
Stakeholder Collaboration:
Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to align R&D activities with business needs.
Communicate progress and outcomes to senior management and other key stakeholders.
Talent Development:
Foster a culture driven by Fortescue's Values (for example, Safety, Frugality, Stretch Targets, Generating Ideas, and others).
Mentor and develop R&D team members to build a high-performing team.
Identify skill gaps and provide training and development opportunities.
Qualifications and Experience
Advanced degree in engineering or science (PhD preferred)
10+ years of experience in technology innovation, research, and development, with a proven track record of leading and delivering complex projects.
Experience in managing cross-functional teams and collaborating with various internal and external stakeholders.
Experience managing federally-funded (e.g. DOE, DoD, NSF) research projects preferred
Extensive knowledge of technologies relevant to green energy, decarbonization, and heavy industry.
Experience with scale-up, modelling, and economic analysis of novel technologies, processes, and commercial applications is preferred.
Proficiency in project management tools and methodologies.
Understanding of intellectual property development, management and regulations.
Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to mentor and develop team members.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with senior management and other stakeholders.
