Position Overview

Our client is seeking an exceptional Principal Digital Systems Engineer and Architect to spearhead the architecture and development of an advanced high-speed FPGA-based data acquisition and function generation. This role requires deep technical expertise in several aspects of high-speed digital systems. The successful candidate will drive innovation, provide technical guidance, and implement code of a complex systems.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the architecture, design, implementation, and verification of complex digital designs, ensuring alignment with system-level and performance requirements.
  • Design, develop and optimize high-performance programmable logic designs, effectively conducting trade-off analyses to partition tasks between hardware (FPGA fabric) and software (embedded processors to achieve optimal performance.
  • Develop FPGA-based DSP code for, high-speed data acquisition, real-time processing, and waveform generation.
  • Design, implement, and optimize embedded implementation for USB and PCIe interfaces across both embedded platforms (including PetaLinux-based systems) and host computers (Windows and Linux).
  • Diagnose and resolve technical implementation issues, ensuring high performance and reliability of the system.
  • Optimize firmware performance for high-speed data transfer and low-latency communication over various communication interfaces. Identify and resolve bottlenecks.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including hardware, software, and systems engineering, to integrate digital designs into larger system architectures, ensuring seamless interaction between components and high system reliability.
  • Develop and maintain detailed design documentation, test plans, and user manuals.
  • Oversee verification and validation efforts, including simulation, emulation, and hardware testing.
  • Drive innovation by exploring new technologies, methodologies, and tools, particularly those that enhance low-level firmware performance and efficiency.

Requirements
  • BS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field. Applicable advanced degree, MS pr PhD, can apply to years of experience.
  • 8+ years of experience in FPGA design, implementation, using VHDL/Verilog and HLS tools.
  • Proven experience in signal processing, including design, simulation, and implementation on FPGA devices.
  • Extensive experience in simulation, synthesis, timing closure in large FPGAs, and placement software tools.
  • Strong background in high-speed interfaces such as PCIe and USB.
  • Experienced with RF circuit design and integration, including working with ADCs, DACs, and RF components.
  • In-depth knowledge of embedded systems, microcontrollers, real-time operating systems (RTOS), and hardware interfaces. Extensive experience with low-level programming and hardware control.
  • Experience in developing and executing FPGA and firmware test plans, understanding DFT (Design For Test) capabilities, and using testing methodologies.
  • Highly desirable: extensive experience with C and C++ for low-level firmware development, and strong skills in Python for scripting and automation tasks.
  • Highly desirable: experience in developing and optimizing device drivers, interrupt service routines (ISR), and hardware abstraction layers (HAL).
  • Experienced in using digital oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, BERTs, and other advanced measurement tools for laboratory debugging.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities to effectively convey complex technical information.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Compensation: Up to $190k
