Job Summary

The Senior Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for providing technical support for the database environment, overseeing the development and organization of the Company's databases, assessments, implementing new technologies, and providing input on long-term perspectives on the relationship of database technology to business opportunities. Technical support will include owning, tracking, handling requests, resolving incidents, routine maintenance, and development of strategic solutions elated to relational databases.

Responsibilities
  • Monitor, test, troubleshoot, optimize, prevent, and resolve database-related issues
  • Develops and enforces standards and guidelines to optimize the management, documentation, access, usage, migration, consolidation and safeguarding of Company data
  • Achieve a state-of-the-art database environment that meets current / future business objectives by working within architectural standards, software development, and operations teams
  • Initiates and performs changes on test, quality assurance, and production
  • Provides system / product training to IT members
  • Provides and designs tools to assist with database management and transaction processing
  • Aids capacity assessment and planning by providing a working model of our transaction processing environment
  • Develops a methodology for the ongoing assessment of database
  • Develops a security scheme for the database environment, and assists in disaster recovery
  • Assists in providing leadership to development, technical support, and operations teams during the design, development, enhancement, production and implementation of applications
  • Develops both the physical and the logical database administration functions and assists in the development of our processing database and computing environments
  • Assists in defining, maintaining, and reinforcing documented software development lifecycle and release management standards
  • Assists software developers in creating, evaluating, and optimizing database queries
  • Reviews, recommends, schedules, implements, and supervises the installation and testing of database-related software
  • Works with development team to plan, coordinate, and implement security measures to safeguard data from accidental or unauthorized usage or modification
  • Maintains a superior level of technology-related knowledge by staying abreast of database-technology-related changes and advancements
  • Work with vendors in evaluating and implementing new technologies as assigned
  • Function as a knowledge expert of Microsoft SQL Server systems
  • Function as a knowledge expert in Master Data Management to include collecting, aggregating, matching, consolidating, quality-assuring, persisting and distributing data throughout an organization to ensure consistency and control in the ongoing maintenance and application use of information
  • Function as a knowledge expert in troubleshooting and resolving database issues including, but not limited to, those involving database integrity, performance, blocking and deadlocking, replication, log shipping, connectivity, and security
  • Function as a knowledge expert in Performance Tuning and Query Optimization using industry standard tools such as Performance Monitor, SQL Profiler and/or other related monitoring tools
  • Performing additional duties as assigned

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree* in Computer Science or Information Technology, or Associate Degree in Computer Science or Information Technology with equivalent of 5-6 years practical experience

  • Preferred Experience: Minimum 8 years practical experience IT industry designation preferred in most, if not all, of the following:

MTA: Microsoft Technology Associate

MCSA: SQL Server 2012/2014

MCSA: SQL 2016 Database Administration

MCSA: SQL 2016 Database Development

ISACA Cybersecurity Fundamentals

  • Advanced technical knowledge in backups, restores, recovery models, maintenance plans, database shrink operations, DBCC commands, clustering, database mirroring, replication
  • Advanced technical knowledge with index management, integrity checks, configuration, and patching
  • Advanced technical knowledge in writing and troubleshooting SQL Code and design (such as, stored procedures, functions, tables, views, triggers, indexes, constraints, link servers)
  • Advanced technical knowledge with Data Warehouse technologies, Data Cubes, and Parallel Databases
  • Advanced experience in SQL design, planning, development, and performance tools
  • Advanced experience in automation and scripting strongly preferred
  • Technical understanding of Active Directory
  • Technical understanding of operating systems, storage, security delegation, and Kerberos
  • Technical understanding of project management principles
  • Familiar with applicable data privacy practices and laws
  • Willingness to learn, positive service attitude
  • Ability to work in a high demand work environment
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
  • Highly self-motivated, directed with keen attention to detail
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment

Additional Requirements

Must be available, if required, to periodically assist on a 24-hour on-call basis
