Thank you for stopping by to take a look at the ETL / VB6 role I posted here on LinkedIN, I appreciate it. Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Tom Welke. I am Partner & VP at RSM Solutions, Inc and I have been recruiting technical talent for over 22 years (it will be 23 in January) and been in the tech sector since the 1990s. So, due to this, I write my own JD's...no bots, no AI, just a genuine human trying to portray what a client is seeking for a role.
If you are an external vendor, please do not send me emails saying 'you have an ideal candidate'. I am not working with external vendors for this role.
As with just about every role I work on, social fit is almost as important as the technical fit. So, here are some ingredients of what makes up a solid social fit:
The team you will be working with is very close knit and typically take ownership of the projects they work on. So, we are looking for that kind of person that takes ownership of their tasks. If you do what you say you will do when you say you will do it, we will be off to a great start.
There is an expectation that you know how to manage your time and be able to handle projects from start to finish. There is limited micromanagement here. Yep, people love hearing that...but that also means that you don't need to be micromanaged.
This role is being done onsite in Waterloo Iowa. Those first 2 months of this 4-6 month assignment will need to be onsite. There is potential (emphasize potential) for the candidate for this role to be remote after those first 2 months...but this is only a potentiality. This role is being done in either a c2c or 1099 basis.
Here is what we are seeking: For this project, you will be creating a tool to extract Oracle data (think Pl/Sql) and move it to this client's OTM tool. This is something similar (from a conceptual level) of how an ETL works. Basically, in further detail, you will be taking shipment data out of a system called "Merlin" (Merlin is built in VB6...with the data sitting in Oracle) to OTM.
So, this role is for that 'thinker'...the person that can think through this project, work through the requirements gathering, documentation and testing, along with managing your own time and deliverables of this initiative on your own. You will have other teammates to collaborate with (there are 7 developers on this team). But, there is an expectation that you will be taking on this particular initiative on your own (with, obviously, the collaboration with your teammates).
Here is what we are seeking in this role:
That individual that can take a 'concept' and put it into action. If you have created tools in your past and have done the requirements gathering, documentation and process flow diagramming and then build the tool yourself off of those activities, that is precisely what we are seeking
At least 5 years of experience with VB6
At least 5 years of experience with Oracle (specifically PL/Sql)
Any exposure to OTM would be great to see (especially from a data structures point of view)
Any ETL experience would be fantastic to see (from a conceptual level)
