Position:
This role is focused on the active oversight of our accounting operations, financial reporting, and financial closing processes. Additional responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, improving financial controls, assisting with budget and forecasting activities, and serving as an integral part of completing our annual audit and tax activities. This position also involves participating in various financial management processes and ensuring the accuracy of our financial information. This position will work directly with, and report to, our Vice President of Finance and Planning, and will have frequent interaction with our CEO.
Responsibilities:
Oversee the day-to-day, ongoing accounting functions and operations
Coordinate the financial close process-closely working with our bookkeepers and the VP of Finance and Planning to ensure accurate financial information.
The above bullet includes monthly closings, quarterly closings, and year-end closing, and would include, but not be limited to, the following:
---Book accruals and ensure the proper classification of expenses and revenues, some of which are performed by our bookkeepers
---Allocate expenses to/from one entity to another
---Prepare the income statements and balance sheets in excel formats from our accounting records (currently using QuickBooks but will be transitioning to a new platform (e.g., either AppFolio or Yardi Breeze)
---Create and update various key metric calculations that are used for management decision- making
Help to improve accounting procedures, controls, financial reporting, and financial operations
Improve the efficiency and functioning of our bill pay procedures
Assist with processing invoices and remitting payments (i.e., be an essential part of the AP/AR function)
Participate in the rent collections process alongside property management (i.e. assist with an accounting discrepancies, etc.
Serve as an integral part of the annual audit
Assist in our financial budgeting and forecasting process
Assist lender compliance and with the preparation of lender deliverables
Prepare reserve draws and escrow requests to lenders
Help with the preparation of Quarterly/Yearly Deliverables for investors and our board
Play a role in the improvement our overall accounting and financial functions within the company
Although it is necessary to have a solid and fundamentally sound understanding of accounting functions at companies, this person will also be performing a wide range of tasks related to accounting, finance, and operations.
Location:
We primarily work from the office, but remote work may be practical and is permitted on a case-by-case basis. This position requires the applicant to be on site in Richmond, VA.
Qualifications:
At least 1 year of full-time accounting experience, with experience in corporate accounting preferred
Real estate, property management accounting experience preferred but not required; investment accounting experience is a plus
Experience working with multiple entities and consolidation of entities would be advantageous
Intermediate to advanced knowledge in Microsoft Excel
Undergraduate Degree in accounting, finance, or sufficient compensatory work experience
CPA is not necessary, but would be viewed favorably
