Job Description:

Job Summary:

The Database Developer will design and create new database functionality and code as well as maintain and improve existing database applications and code in Oracle and/or SQL Server DBs. Responsible for developing, testing, improving and maintaining new and existing databases. Work closely with application developers to ensure system consistency, collaborate with administrators and clients to provide technical support and identify new requirements ensuring database systems run effectively and securely. Implement data dashboards to all levels of the organization. Evaluate and advise on technology components, such as software, hardware, and networking capabilities, for database management systems and applications.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Design stable, reliable and effective databases

  • Optimize and maintain legacy databases

  • Modify databases according to requests and perform tests

  • Solve database usage issues and malfunctions

  • Conduct research and make recommendations on database products, services, protocols, and standards in support of procurement and development efforts

  • Coordinate and work with other technical staff to develop relational databases

  • Identify inefficiencies in current databases and investigate solutions

  • Diagnose and resolve database access and performance issues

  • Plan and coordinate data migrations between systems

  • Development and maintenance of the database stored procedures, views and functions for software applications

  • Ensure all database systems meet business and performance requirements

  • Produce ad-hoc queries and develop reports to support business needs

  • Creation and maintenance of technical documentation

  • Implementation of data dashboards to display data in various formats

  • Work closely with Database Administrator on overall design and scalability of all databases

  • Work closely with all developers on the best practices for application and database architecture

  • Identify best practices for security and compliance requirements for database architecture


Competencies:



  • In-depth understanding of data management (e.g. permissions, recovery, security and monitoring)

  • Knowledge of software development and user interface web applications

  • Hands on experience with Microsoft SQL Server

  • Familiarity working with .Net Framework, JavaScript, HTML and Oracle

  • Analytical and organization skills

  • Solution oriented verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong organizational skills

  • SQL developer in Oracle and/or SQL Server (preferably both)

  • Knowledge of creating, updating, optimizing and tuning:

  • SQL Queries

  • Stored Procedures

  • Physical and Logical Database Designs

  • Inter and Intra-Database integrations

  • Design stable, reliable and effective databases:

  • Logical and Physical Data modeling and implementation

  • Indexing Strategies and implementations

  • Storage / Partitioning Implications

  • Ability to refactor and optimize legacy database code

  • Data Replication Experience desirable

  • ETL experience desirable

  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment, as well as independently with minimal supervision

  • Ability to switch between priorities quickly without affecting quality or performance

  • Superior customer service skills

  • Ability to lead projects and development activities across product-lines

  • Working knowledge of development methodologies (e.g. Agile, CMMI)

  • Knowledgeable in service oriented architecture

  • Proficient in object oriented design and development

  • Must be knowledgeable of SDLC processes and tools (e.g. Microsoft Team Foundation)


Education and/or Experience: (includes certificate & licenses):



  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in a related discipline (Computer Science Preferred), or equivalent education/experience combined

  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience

  • Experience with Oracle and SQL Server.

  • Experience with Oracle Forms and Reports programming a plus


Pay range: $110,000 - $138,000
