Description: Purpose: Support laboratory facilities and equipment, conduct experimental tasks, and maintain safe laboratory conditions. This role contributes to loss prevention solutions in fire suppression and explosion protection, under the supervision of senior research scientists.
Responsibilities:
Conduct scientific experiments related to fire detection, prevention, suppression, water spray characterization, and explosion protection to obtain accurate data.
Design, fabricate, calibrate, and maintain test equipment, sensors, and instrumentation for reliable measurements (temperature, velocity, gas concentration, pressure, heat flux, energy release, etc.) during controlled experiments.
Collaborate with senior scientists to design, set up, and execute experiments.
Develop technical procedures and recommend necessary components, equipment, sensors, and supplies for projects.
Manage laboratory experiment-related projects.
Qualifications:
Minimum of a two-year college education, or an associate or bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related technical fields, with 3 years of relevant experience in scientific or industrial labs or technical fabrication/machining/instrumentation environments. Candidates with a high school diploma and extensive relevant experience may also be considered.
Good understanding of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing principles for conducting scientific experiments.
Ability to design, fabricate, and troubleshoot experimental setups.
Fundamental knowledge of combustion, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, etc.
Experience with advanced measurement diagnostics, including laser technology.
Familiarity with various machine shop tools and equipment.
Computer literacy, including data acquisition using NI LabVIEW software, programming with Python or Matlab, and experience with design software such as SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
Knowledge of personal and area safety practices in a laboratory environment.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Proven teamwork and project management skills.
Demonstrated ability to provide innovative solutions to laboratory and experimental problems.
