Summary:

Provide support to Accounting in various matters involving the accounting and finance functions of the Catapult and communications with the parent company.

Job Description:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Process and perform initial review of daily receipts, monthly revenue intake sheets, spreadsheets, files, and some internal & intercompany accounting reports. Analyze and create financial and operational data and communicate results timely and effectively to management.
  • Receive and organize payment detail delivered through email and mail, request and download data from external sources such as EnergyLink or Mineralsoft (or other related Oildex software) to import and/or manually enter well level data into accounting software (JD Edwards). Apply knowledge of accounting policies and procedures to tasks which include recording journal entries, and research and analysis. Complete all assigned duties as part of the accounting close process.
  • Monitoring of accounts payable and receivable. Prepare and perform in-depth financial analysis and prepare entries as needed. Provide accounting guidance and training support to junior accounting/as needed.
  • Prepare individual company and consolidated income statements, balance sheets, cash flow statements. Prepare detailed reports for management, providing insights for decision making.
  • Prepare tax & royalty calculations used in preparation of state and federal reports entry on monthly basis
  • Process monthly revenue variance reporting and assist with accruals. Handles more complex reconciliations and resolves discrepancies independently, creating journal entries as needed.
  • Perform month end system closing responsibilities on a timely basis inclusive of journal review, report building, and variance analysis. Prepare individual company and consolidated income statements, balance sheets, cash flow statements. Submit in-depth analysis via reporting to management team.
  • Perform analysis of GL entries and reconciliation through system queries, research, investigation of reconciling items and propose resolution. Review revenue and production inputs for accuracy and completeness, identify any issues/inconsistencies on operator statements, correct accounting system accordingly. Submit in a timely manner. Provide analysis of the composition and validity of account balances.
  • Work with management on quarterly and year-end audit. Contributes to the development and implementation of accounting policies and documentation of procedures. Support and participate in internal & external audit activities. Work within a team environment and extract and analyze data from accounting system to provide operational support.
  • Perform other accounting and special projects/ad hoc analysis, including assisting with spreadsheet-based financial models.
  • Will work tasks that are routine or vary in nature depending on the assignment; usually implements solution through individual or collective effort.
  • Collaborate within the department or work group and interacts with external colleagues.
  • Works with structured objectives, priorities and timelines that may impact department or individual work group
  • May be responsible for tracking performance to predetermined budget.
  • May be asked to lead certain functions/projects as appropriate.
  • Timely and effective communication with internal personnel and external payors/operators as needed
  • Ensure accounting procedures are properly documented; maintain strong internal controls.
  • Provide process improvement recommendations and be prepared to assist in their implementation. Review processes for improvements as changes occur or new requirements are added to the month-end close process. Use knowledge gained in making recommendations that are practical and which gain efficiencies.

OTHER DUTIES:

  • Assist with other administrative functions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Must have advanced working knowledge of accounting and finance principles, practices and terminology, and possess the ability to apply them.
  • Prefer some oil & gas experience.
  • Must be able to communicate such issues verbally and in writing to explain and convey the information.
  • Must have excellent spreadsheet skills (including pivot tables, v-lookups) and be computer proficient.
  • Requires experience with financial accounting systems and work with aspects such as general ledger, fixed assets, accounts payable, consolidation, and budgeting.
  • Must have interpersonal skills to work with office personnel.
  • Some travel may be required.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Requires Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance (with adequate accounting coursework).
  • 2+ years of related experience with progressively responsible accounting/finance experience.
