The Centerfor Prevention Researchand Development (CPRD),within the University of Illinois' School of Social Work, seeks a Survey Research Outreach Specialist to join our team. CPRD is a vibrant applied research center that has been in operation for 30 years. CPRD has a stable $3.5 million-dollar annual portfolio of grants in substance use prevention, juvenile justice, maternal and early childhood health, and teen pregnancy prevention. We work with meaningful data that has applications for the field and for impacting policy. CPRD invests in its staff with procedures to support professional development and ongoing learning opportunities.



Job Summary

Serves as an assistant coordinator of a large-scale applied research project, the Illinois Youth Survey (IYS), for the Center for Prevention Research and Development (CPRD). Works on the IYS project team to provide technical assistance to participating schools, oversee the registration process, and coordinate all data collection and communication activities of the IYS with schools throughout Illinois.



Duties & Responsibilities


IYS P roject M anagement/Coordination

• Work as part of the team overseeing biennial administration of the Illinois Youth Survey, including recruitment, registration, survey administration, review of implementation data and report generation.


• Coordinate and implement the IYS school promotion and recruitment plans, using an array of methods (e.g. targeted email communication, engagement of community and state partners, etc.).


• Develop and update IYS recruitment materials to promote statewide awareness of the IYS and assist with state random sample school recruitment efforts during administration years.


• Update survey administration materials (instruction documents, online tutorials/webinars) that educate school survey administrators.


• Develop and deliver training materials regarding IYS survey administration and data utilization, including tutorial presentations and videos.

• Monitor project timelines and workflow.

• Complete daily and weekly reporting to internal and external partners.

• Maintain the IYS website, including report and document uploads, text, and announcements.


Technical Assistance to School Participants and Providers


• Serve as part of an outreach team to provide information to schools and community-based organizations regarding the Illinois Youth Survey project, including incoming calls, voice mail, and email.


• Generate and distribute IYS school reports, district reports, county reports, and community reports.


• Manage and track school reports and district report release forms and fulfill requests.


• Provide technical assistance to school personnel regarding school coordination and implementation of IYS surveys.


• Provide technical assistance to community-based providers and local schools/districts on interpreting and utilizing data from the IYS.


IYS Application Use and Tracking


• Use custom designed databases and/or spreadsheets to manage and track all aspects of Illinois Youth Survey data collection procedures including recruitment, promotion, survey administration, and results reporting.


• Assist with testing the IYS survey and supporting applications.


Internal Reporting, Deliverables, and Exhibits


• Maintain deliverables documentation for quarterly progress reports to the sponsor (Illinois Department of Human Services).


• Maintain project documentation and meeting notes



Minimum Qualifications



Bachelor's degree in social work, community psychology, sociology, human development, health communications, epidemiology, education, public health or related field. Experience in large-scale survey administration. Experience working with or within a school, district or regional office of education.



Preferred Qualifications



Master's degree in social work, community psychology, sociology, human development, health communications, epidemiology, education, public health or related field. Experience managing project workflow in a research setting. Advanced MS Excel skills and knowledge of database management. Advanced writing skills for proofing and editing technical and non-technical reports. Bilingual Spanish/English language proficiency. Ability to manage websites.



Knowledge, Skills and Abilities



Excellent organizational and time management skills including meeting deadlines, managing multiple tasks concurrently and maintaining required documentation. Ability to consistently perform self-managed work, anticipate project needs, and work independently with minimal direction. Ability to develop and update written materials designed to reach one or more target audiences. Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability for solution-focused problem solving. Good judgment and tact when representing CPRD via trainings, presentations/exhibits, technical assistance consultations, and external meetings. Knowledgeable about working with diverse populations, culture, and roles (e.g., race/ethnicity, class, gender, school & district personnel). Basic knowledge of survey research data collection methodology.



Appointment Information


This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the search posting closes. The budgeted salary range for the position is $55,000-$60,000. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity.
