Ph.D. in a physical or natural science from an accredited institution as approved and accepted by the University of South Alabama.
Ability to work with vertebrate animal models is required.

Research experience involving extracellular bacterial pathogens, cell isolation, sterile tissue culture, DNA/RNA isolation and analysis, recombinant DNA techniques, immunoassays, flow cytometry, and microscopy.

Essential Functions These are the job duties required of the position.
Essential Functions
Designs and implements research techniques for a major research program.
Designs and supervises the implementation of a research project involving very technical and highly complex chemical and biological analyses requiring advanced knowledge in a specified area.
Conducts complex experiments while analyzing and interpreting data.
Keeps inventory and orders equipment and supplies as needed.
Prepares reports of research findings and presents findings at local and national meetings.
Plans, designs, and conducts experimental protocols designed to meet research objectives.
Interprets research findings and analyzes data.
Instructs and trains lower level laboratory personnel and students.
Supervises lower level laboratory personnel.
Assists in the preparation of grant applications and progress reports.
Prepares manuscripts for publication.
Trains staff and ensures proper safety procedures in the handling, storage and disposals of biohazardous, radioactive, and/or highly toxic materials.
Regular and prompt attendance.
Ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required.
Related duties as required.
