Responsibilities

What you'll be challenged to do:

Gannett Fleming TranSystems is excited to announce we are actively searching for a Senior Project Manager with 15+ years of Maryland/Mid-Atlantic experience. This position is a full time, salaried role where the incumbent would be poised for promotion to positions of increased responsibility and authority.  This person will manage projects or major tasks through full project lifecycle. May plan, organize and supervise engineering activities for a major project, two or more projects of significant size and complexity or several projects of moderate size and complexity. May involve managing one or more orgs and outside teaming partners to deliver defined scopes of service. Markets and develops business aligned with company goals. Provides direction and influences actions of team members.

Primary Responsibilities:


  • Participates in go/no-go process and in preparing proposals and contracts; negotiating and managing client and teaming agreements;

  • Developing and maintaining schedules, budgets, quality plans, risk management plans.

  • Manages the project set-up process and defines communication and document control procedures;

  • Leads Develops project execution plan; Coordinates and leads project meetings

  • Leads preparation of status update reports, project plan updates, change control, and closeout.

  • Actively monitors project through the use of project inquires and reports;

  • Actively controls project schedule, budget, quality, and risk;

  • Executes project change management and project closeout activities.

  • Manages quality control and assurance. Guides project through quality audit process.

  • Responsible for management of and quality control of all engineering work within the department to include advice, studies, reports, design, and services.

  • Assists Executive Vice President in workforce planning, management of projects, and business development.

  • Guides, directs, and supervises staff/managers in the administration, planning, and execution of projects assigned to the department.

  • Monitors scope of work and budgets on projects and responds to any changes. 

  • Ensures projects are completed on time, on budget, technically accurate, and conform to the firm’s quality control standards.

  • Maintains good working relationships with clients during and after projects are finished to assure securing future work. Identifies prospective clients, meets prospects, determines their needs, and prepares/presents proposals.  Actively maintains relationships with past and current clients.  Assists in the collection of aging receivables.

  • Reports periodically to the Executive Vice President concerning the status of the department’s financial goals and targets. 

  • Supports and implements the firm’s policies, practices, philosophies, and strategic plan, and recommends changes on policy goals and direction to the Executive Vice President.

  • Signs and seals drawings, plans, reports, etc., as prepared by staff.

  • Executes assignments as delegated by the Executive Vice President.

  • Formulates proposals, negotiates scope and fees for projects.

  • Reviews all technical and support personnel within department to assess their performance, salary, promotion, and/or disciplinary action.

  • Participates in hiring, coaching, counseling, and terminations of department personnel.

Qualifications

What you bring to our firm:


  • Bachelors of Science Degree in Engineering 

  • 15 years of industry experience in structural engineering with a concentration in marine structures (preferable).

  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) licensure, Maryland License preferred

  • 5-10 years of project management experience

  • Experience managing multi-disciplined design projects

  • Successful experience in leading engineering teams (providing purpose, direction, and motivation)

  • Ability to work harmoniously with colleagues and client representatives

  • Detailed knowledge of project management methods and activities

  • Understanding of cost/schedule control through Earned Value Analysis (EVA) and various scheduling techniques

  • Detailed knowledge of PM&QG and quality/risk management

  • Negotiation, collaboration, team building and development

  • Planning and organizing work

  • Software experience: STAAD Pro, SPMats, SPColumn, Lpile, AutoCAD, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Project, Microsoft PowerPoint

  • Actively engages multiple perspectives when solving problems, seeks to learn from peers, and encourages reciprocal learning among team members.

Work Environment:


  • Mostly indoor office environment, however there may be some occasions where duties would be performed outdoors (all weather conditions). Occasional travel to conduct field reviews or meet with clients. Overtime may be required. Minimal lifting 10-20 lbs.

For individuals assigned and/or hired to work in California, Colorado, Maryland, Connecticut, Ohio, Washington, or NY City, Gannett Fleming TranSystems is required by law to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This compensation range is specific to the State of Maryland and takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; internal peer equity; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. At Gannett Fleming TranSystems, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $100,000-$150,000.
