ELEMENTARY GUIDANCE COUNSELOR – LONG TERM SUBSTITUTE
The Wattsburg Area School District is looking for a Long-Term Substitute Guidance Counselor anticipated March 2025 through June 2025.
Shift: Full time, regular school schedule
Salary Range: Minimum of $44,325 based on degree(s), prorated.
Benefits: Full employer paid medical while employed as a Long-Term Substitute.
Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated counselor with the ability to relate well to students and help them develop academically, socially and emotionally. This is a temporary full time daily substitute position assigned to work as a guidance counselor in a K-4 elementary school. The ideal candidate will be certified as an Elementary and Secondary School Counselor (PK-12). Individuals holding bachelor’s degree in a related field that are eligible for emergency certification will be considered.
Key Responsibilities:
· Provide appropriate testing and test interpretation to help the student, parent(s) and faculty understand the student and set goals.
· Be aware of community and school resources and their relationships to the attainment of educational goals and the value of life-long learning.
· Keep informed on current educational/counseling topics through ongoing in-service, current periodicals, online study, etc.
· Attend out of district events such as school counselor meetings, training, and conferences coordinated by the Building Principal.
· Be available to the faculty and/or administration as a resource person when needed.
· Attend faculty department meetings as requested and provide counseling related resources.
· Assist with the state and local testing process.
· Assist with master schedule and grouping of students including special needs students.
· Network within the school and community to provide opportunities for counseling on issues such as depression, relationships, suicide, and family concerns. In-school counseling programs include prevention programs, SAP, academic, social-emotional and behavioral counseling.
· Be an active member of multidisciplinary teams such as the Student Assistance Program (SAP)
· Collaborate with school staff on problems a student is experiencing that might affect his/her education and ways to deal with the situation.
· Refer students and/or families to community agencies through the multidisciplinary team process.
· Provide assistance and information to community agencies such as Office of Children and Youth, Juvenile Probation, IU, Crisis Services, and Child Line.
· Provide information relating to educational opportunities for students to demonstrate talents, abilities, and achievement within the school and community.
· Provide a positive support system for the student by networking with faculty, parents, and advisors. Also, encourage school involvement through activities, athletic, etc. build rapport with student "open-door policy" and extra-curricular support.
· Support the staff when dealing with students in areas of conflict resolution, promotion of honesty, integrity, and individual responsibility and recognizing the consequences of
prejudice. Provide materials, coordinate referrals, support staff at parent conferences, refer students to SAP and BLT.
Qualifications:
· PA School Counseling Certificate
· Strong organizational skills.
· Effective written and oral communication skills.
· Self-motivated and adept at problem solving and critical thinking.
· Ability to work as part of a team.
