The Asphalt Paving Foreman will directly supervise and coordinate the activities of the asphalt crew and may also engage in the trade work of the supervised employees. Will be directly responsible for setting up the hot mix paver and managing the laydown process.
This position reports to the Asphalt Paving Superintendent.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Plan out each day and communicate to the crew members what activities will be accomplished.
Ensure that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed. Bring problems to the attention of the Asphalt Superintendent and Safety officer as needed.
Coordinate, direct, and lead workers engaged in construction activities.
Supervise crews to obtain top-quality workmanship, efficiency, employee satisfaction, morale, communication, commitment, teamwork, and pride.
Review and verify employee time sheets for accuracy before submitting to the timekeepers/Payroll.
Analyze and resolve worker issues. If the problems are around harassment, work with the EEO Officer to develop a plan of action.
Communicate with maintenance staff about maintenance needs on all significant pieces of equipment on assigned jobs.
Relate to the public and customers professionally, courteously, and respectfully.
Follow asphalt paving procedures and protocols as outlined in orientations and trainings.
Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in utility construction.
Strong coordination, time management, active listening, and reasoning skills are required.
The ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go bad and to work toward solving those issues.
Must be able to read, understand, and apply information obtained from blueprints, surveys, and job specifications.

Understand and adhere to the Personal Protection Equipment requirements
Education and Experience - Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent.
At least five years of related skill, knowledge, and experience in heavy civil operations construction.
Minimum of 2 years in a supervisory role.
Valid driver's license.

Walk, bend, kneel, lift, stretch and sit.
Effectively handle lifting of various objects weighing up to 100 pounds.
Work extended hours out-of-doors in a variety of weather conditions.
Travel and some Saturday work are required.
Must be able to wear a hard hat, safety vest, safety glasses, and safety-toed boots.
