About the Position

Responsible for oversight of the Company's accounting operations in a specified division or business group. This includes assisting in the production of periodic financial reports, maintenance of systems of accounting records, and creating a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the Company's reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles, as well as all state and federal regulations. This position manages and coordinates the people, processes and procedures, software and other resources used to perform all accounting functions, in alignment with all Company policies, procedures, key objectives and regulations.

Day in the Life
  • Collaborates with the controller and others on the finance team to prepare budgets and financial forecasts and report variances, to prepare and publish accurate and timely monthly financial statements and to conduct annual financial audits. Performs analysis of work-in-process reports and job projection worksheets.
  • Analyzes and creates business metrics and reports for key meetings. Prepares monthly action folders for project managers, to include data related to accounts receivable, work-in-process information and open service orders. Reconciles A/R general ledger accounts as needed.
  • Manages outstanding invoices such as customer billing and cash receipts, and coordinates with project managers to resolve customer billing disputes as needed. Reviews and signs off on daily cash receipts and other required documents.
  • Assists in managing the day-to-day operations of the accounting and finance staff, ensuring all work activities and processes are performed accurately and efficiently. Establishes and enforces proper accounting methods, policies, and principles to maintain and strengthen internal controls.
  • May lead special projects that require cross-functional engagement with key staff across the organization and with external stakeholders, as appropriate.
  • Analyzes and improves systems by identifying opportunities on cost-effective, actionable ways to improve quality and efficiency of systems. Prioritizes projects, seeks buy-in, and executes project work to achieve financial accounting objectives.
  • Accurately and confidentially maintains Company records and other sensitive business and client data and intellectual property. Complies with all local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.
  • Provides high quality direction, communications, mentoring and training to staff and other coworkers as needed. Coaches' employees and provides performance feedback regularly.
  • Cultivates strong and cooperative working relationships with internal and external customers that reflect and support the Company's core values and meet or exceed the customer's expectations.
  • Consistently makes decisions in an attentive and safe manner to ensure the safety and health of self and others.
  • Utilizes LEAN concepts or other continuous improvement methodologies to ensure the most efficient operations, processes, and activities.

Required Education, Experience and Skills
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in business administration, accounting, finance, or a related field. CPA Certification preferred.
  • Minimum 5-7 years of work experience in an accounting or financial analyst role, preferably in the construction industry. Demonstrated understanding of basic accounting practices, principles, and guidelines. Previous experience directly managing people preferred.
  • Experience in cost accounting and/or inventory controls. Experience using accounting and billing software and systems. Expertise in Microsoft Office software applications, specifically Excel.
  • Strong skills to effectively analyze substantial amounts of data using reporting tools such as Excellent listening, interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic project management training, experience, and skills. Understanding of the project life cycle.
  • Training and work experience with LEAN methodologies and applications is a plus. Crystal Reports, MS Access, and Cognos.
  • Strong business acumen and experience collaborating with senior leaders in a high growth, process-oriented business setting. Superior analytical and mathematical skills, and the ability to read and interpret financial documents.
  • Experience and skills working with confidential data. Demonstrated high level of integrity and dependability. Aptitude to work independently under pressure, assess multiple demands and manage priorities.
  • Strong team player, with effective collaboration, organizational and relationship-building skills. Strong leadership, coaching, training, and mentoring skills.
  • Strong initiative, prioritization, and customer service skills. Strong independent problem-solving and time management skills and high detail orientation.
  • Excellent listening, interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic project management training, experience, and skills. Understanding of the project life cycle.
