Position
Summary:



Reporting to the Corporate Controller, the Operations Finance Manager is responsible for managing a variety of financial, accounting and reporting functions in support of MZB's Operations group and business overall. Responsibilities include management of internal costs and accounting practices, as well as ensuring compliance with Corporate requirements. The Operations Finance Manager must have a strong financial/accounting background and exhibit the ability to drive collaboration and process improvements across multiple teams and levels within the organization.



Responsibilities:



  • Manage Inventory Control department and Supply Chain Accountant

  • Assist Controller with sales and use, state excise, Canadian GST/HST and property tax accruals, filings, payments, and audit follow up

  • Serve as liaison to external tax accountants, providing supporting documentation

  • Record updates to tax provision and reconcile related accounts

  • Prepare and submit annual corporate filings, health permits, and other statutory filings as needed

  • Upload Kauai trial balance, perform intercompany sales elimination, reclass deferred production costs, and reconcile intercompany with MZB

  • Oversee the setup of standard costs, bill of materials and new item set up, cost rolls, and periodic updates to standard costs and review resulting inventory revaluations

  • Periodic review of item set up and standard costs to ensure accuracy using Cost of Manufactured Items (COMI), stock status and other reports

  • Review purchase price variances on a weekly basis and manufacturing variances monthly, working with team to research unusual variances

  • Review physical inventory adjustments and work with Inventory Control, Logistics, and Production to identify and resolve underlying issues. Review monthly reclass of inventory adjustments.

  • Assist Inventory Control Supervisor and Inventory Control Analyst with coordination and review of monthly green physical inventory. Participate in annual warehouse inventories, including coordination with external auditors, and review and present results to management


  • Analyze slow moving, obsolete, and on-hold inventory, bill of material items not in use or expired, and related reserves. Review inventory aging and adjust reserves as needed. Review inventory disposals to ensure offset against reserves if appropriate.

  • Review and guide Supply Chain Accountant with Logistics/Warehouse/Freight accruals, allocations/clearing entries, and financial reports

  • Provide support for Logistics and Operations budgeting process and validate results

  • SG&A and other allocations as part of month end close process as needed

  • Assist in preparation and review of Inventory reports for bank Loan Based Reports

  • Oversee intercompany billings and invoice tracking (MZB Group sister companies)

  • Provide supporting documentation to insurance broker, review renewal options with management, coordinate payments and claims filings, and reconcile related insurance accounts

  • Track daily cash activity, record journal entries, and prepare monthly bank reconciliations

  • Serve as back up to Manager General Accounting for new vendor set ups and other tasks as needed

  • Liaison with auditors for quarterly, mid-year, annual and other audits as needed

  • Verify that transactions comply with financial policies and procedures

  • Maintain various Excel schedules

  • Various projects as assigned; other duties as assigned


Requirements
&
Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting and a CPA required

  • Minimum of seven years of experience in accounting - with a minimum of 3 years supervisory, corporate tax, and compliance oversight

  • Knowledge of accounts payable, cost and general accounting, insurance, taxes and inventory

  • Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy in preparing and entering financial information

  • Excellent interpersonal skills / management skills

  • Computer skills including knowledge of JD Edwards (a plus), and Microsoft programs including Excel and Word

  • Effective organization skills
