RESPONSIBILITIES:
Install, maintain, fabricate and repair transmission and distribution substations, generating and substation equipment, and communication sites throughout Company system.
Perform duties requiring journey-level skill in one or more fields such as electrical, mechanical, concrete, or structural steel.
Perform switching at substations and in the field.
Receive and interprets work assignments.
Under broad supervision decides work priorities.
Plan and coordinate equipment and material. Determines logical sequence for tasks. Coordinates activities with internal/external contacts.
Work with crew and occasionally directs other personnel in safely performing all aspects of construction and maintenance; including out-of-town work, trouble shooting and after hour call outs.
Become involved with design modifications or development as needed.
Ensure work is carried out within acceptable boundaries.
Responsible for administrative duties.
Stay current with policies, procedures and understands paperwork required by the job and Company.
Meet safety and training requirements.
Communicate Company safety policy and practices to contractors and others.
Participate in documenting apprentice's progression evaluation and providing of feedback to the apprentice.
Assist in training for apprentices and other crew members.
Develop and maintain an increased understanding of construction and maintenance technology; including tools, associated equipment, work procedures and material changes. Assist others in same.
Must utilize appropriate leadership and human relationship skills in working with other employees and the public.
Perform duties of a like or lesser grade, which may be assigned.
REQUIRED EDUCATION:
External Candidates:
A two year technical degree with significant coursework in electronics or electrical technology.
Internal Candidates:
A two year technical degree with significant coursework in electronics or electrical technology OR completion of a four year apprenticeship. The qualifying apprenticeships are:
Relay & Meter Technician
Electronics Technician
Underground Lineworker/Cable Splicer
Lineworker
Maintenance & Repair - Mechanical
Maintenance & Repair - Electrical
Substation Serviceworker
Laboratory Technician
Meter Technician
Instrument & Control Compliance Technician
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
Two years or more of directly related experience installing, maintaining, and constructing electrical and mechanical systems.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
This position will report regularly in person to Eveleth, MN.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a Commercial Driver's License within 18 months of hire.
Must have a DOT Medical Examiner's Certificate.
May be required to obtain specialized training in HVAC or Thermography.
Completion of a physical work screen including audiometric/pulmonary function testing, and color vision screening required.
This position may be subject to assessment of skills, job match and/or aptitude.
