Position Purpose:
Responsible to carry out all quality control activities within the Brake Shoe Fabrication (Semac) department including inspection, examination, testing, and sorting. Responsible to ensure that product and incoming material are free from visual defects, and are in compliance with all dimensional requirements, customer specifications and workmanship standards.
Hourly or Salary Range: $18.00 - $21.00
Essential Functions:
• Read and understand all procedures and work instructions necessary for properly carrying out the requirements of this position.
• Perform first piece, in-process, and final audit inspection of product from all stages of manufacture or processing within the Semac department.
• Compare material with part prints, engineering standards, and reference samples (or photos) to ensure all product is complete and correct to specification.
• Fill out all required check sheets and inspection records.
• Properly identify (tag) and segregate material found to be nonconforming.
• Report findings to QA Supervisor and to Semac Dept. Manager/Supervisor
• Assist in employee training.
• Provide troubleshooting assistance to manufacturing and engineering.
• Provide support for PPAP, process capability, and gage studies
• Keep assigned work area and equipment clean and orderly
• Follow all documented safety procedures and postings
• Provide temporary QA support to other manufacturing departments or shifts as necessary
• Maintain Environmental, Health and Safety standards in the workplace
Education and Training:
High school diploma or GED
Minimum Qualifications:
• Related job experience helpful
• Ability to understand and carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
• Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing
• Ability to read and understand part prints and engineering specifications
• Basic math skills; add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals
• Ability to work with both metric and standard measuring systems
• Familiar with the use and proper care of both precision and non-precision measuring tools
• Ability to work in a team environment, take direction from supervisor(s) and also work with minimal or no supervision when required
Physical Demands:
• Ability to stand continuously for 8 - 12 hours
• Ability to twist, bend and lift repetitively
• Ability to lift up to 12 pounds repetitively
• Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally
• Good eye/hand coordination and good motor skills
• Good close vision, distance vision, color vision, and depth perception
Environmental Conditions:
• Exposure to loud noise
• Exposure to hot and humid conditions
• Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles
• Hearing protection and eye protection is required at all times in all production and assembly areas
• Steel toe boots with metatarsals are required at all times
