Job Description:

Summary:
Do you enjoy a collaborative environment working with multiple departments? As the Director of Engineering you will provide strategic, organizational and operational leadership for Liberty Hardware Manufacturing's Engineering team as well as global technical support functions.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement engineering strategies for core product and new category development in support of business goals and aligned with the enterprises long term vision and objectives.
  • Set department objectives and monitor performance to achieve year-over-year goals. Develop team members through coaching / mentoring and providing opportunities to increase knowledge, skills, abilities, tools, and resources.
  • Supervise critical engineering activities to improve product development and accelerate speed and accuracy.
  • Lead product governance / compliance efforts surrounding applicable product standards and requirements.
  • Develop, lead, and facilitate ongoing process improvement strategies; streamline practices to ensure alignment with business strategies and corporate performance objectives.
  • Participate in events and activities that lead to total value improvement, time savings, and/or waste reduction for the business.
  • Collaborate and give guidance to management, sales, and marketing staff to resolve engineering feasibility, cost effectiveness, and customer demand for new and existing products.
  • Advise management of new developments which may affect profit, schedule, costs, customer relations, and/or cross functional collaboration.
  • Drive our continuous product development processes. Provide guidance to the engineering / technical support functions (3D models, Drawings, Specifications, QFD, DFMEA, Bill of Material, and Instruction Sheets).
  • Develop, give support and communication to global engineers, US engineers, contract engineering, and quality assurance to ensure products are fabricated and assembled based on product specifications and requirements.
  • Directly supervise technical employees in the Engineering department with a dotted line of supervision to the Masco Asia, Masco India Engineers, and outside engineering resources/contractors. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance.
  • Lead value engineering efforts and key contributor to Liberty Hardware Manufacturing's total cost productivity processes.


Education & Experience Preferred:
  • A bachelor's degree (B.S.) in Engineering or technical discipline from a four-year college or university; Masters degree a plus.
  • Minimum of 10 years' engineering / technical experience in a manufacturing or contract manufacturing environment.
  • Solid understanding of 3-D CAD parametric modeling software or the ability and willingness to learn the software (CREO software). FEA software or knowledge a plus. Enterprise software and Microsoft Office are important to the functions of the job.
  • Six Sigma Green or Black Belt certification preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience in manufacturing processes including die-casting, extrusion, injection molding, electro-plating, anodizing, coatings application, metal stamping and fabrication.
  • Functional expertise in global governance / compliance management processes surrounding applicable company, industry and customer product standards / specifications, quality and sustainability requirements.
  • Demonstrated history of delivering year over year total value / productivity, building partnerships with suppliers globally, and productivity improvement through CI / Lean practice implementation.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Must be available to travel both domestic and internationally 15% -20% of the time. Possible trip duration of 2 weeks or more.
  • Strong strategic thought leadership, influencing and interpersonal skills.
  • Continuous improvement mentality with strong analytical and problem-solving skills particularly in fast paced environments.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with ability to prioritize to focus on high-impact initiatives.
  • Ability to use data and support cost analysis / design to value processes particularly related to new product / category development.
  • Strong negotiation skills. Ability to work collaboratively across multiple functions.
