JOB OVERVIEW: To use leadership, supervision and administrative skills so as to best promote the educational development of each student. Primary responsibility is the improvement of instruction, with a majority of time being spent on curriculum and staff development.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Illinois Administrative certificate required
Minimum of a Master's degree in Educational Administration
Minimum of 5 years of teaching experience required
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Leadership
Leads the school towards district and school goals/initiatives
Assumes the responsibility for the implementation and observance of all Board policies and State and Federal regulations as they apply to the school staff, students, and physical facilities
Acts as a role model to, and representative for, the District 46 community.
Communicates effectively with all constituents
Assists in recruiting, screening, hiring, training, assigning, and evaluating the school's certified and classified staff
Recommends the removal of a teacher or other employees assigned to the school whose work is unsatisfactory according to established procedures
Assumes responsibility for the safety and administration of the school plant
Delegates authority to responsible certified personnel to assume responsibility for the school in the absence of the principal
Exercises decisive leadership in crisis situations
Plans and supervises fire drills and other emergency preparedness programs
Assumes responsibility for the accurate and punctual preparation of all school reports as required by the Central Office and State and Federal agencies
Accepts responsibility for monitoring and supervising the expenditure of all school petty cash and activity funds
Assumes responsibility for formulating building budget and monitoring subsequent expenditures
Keeps abreast of changes and developments in the profession by attending professional meetings approved by the Superintendent, reading professional journals and other publications, and discussing problems of mutual interest with others in the field
Participates in principals' meetings and other such meetings as may be required by the Superintendent
Assumes responsibility for the supervision and implementation of the school's athletic and other extracurricular activities
Develops management objectives for the school operation
Monitors use of school building by outside groups
Works with staff to develop ongoing school improvement plans and disseminates information to the entire staff
Teaching and Learning
Supervises the school's educational program
Assists in the development, revision, and evaluation of the curriculum
Lead building school improvement team in the creation of School Improvement Plan
Monitors student performance on state and national standardized tests
Maintains high standards of student conduct and enforces discipline as necessary in accordance with Board policy, State and Federal laws and regulations, and affords acceptable due process of the rights of students and other individuals
Keeps abreast of trends, developments, and research as they pertain to education and the school operations
Maintains an awareness of factors outside the school which affect the school program.
Fosters good interpersonal relations among students and staff
Promotes positive action toward the realization of school objectives through efficient procedures, extracurricular programs, and the establishment of staff, student, and community committees
Acts as liaison between the school and the community, interpreting activities and policies of the school, encouraging participation, and making recommendations for improvement.
Budgets the school time to provide for the efficient conduct of school and business
Cooperates with college and university officials regarding teacher training and preparation
Conducts staff meetings to keep members informed of policy changes, new programs, and other information that is pertinent to the operation of the school
Supervises the special education referrals and staffing procedures to ensure proper placement of students in cooperation with the Director of Special Education
Ensures normal progression of students' skill development
Works with parent groups to enhance and control volunteer activities
Performs other tasks and assumes other responsibilities as assigned by the Superintendent
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, talk or hear, and taste or smell. The employee frequently is required to use hands to handle or feel instructional materials. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
