SUPERVISES: Staff members as designated by the Superintendent
JOB GOAL: To assist the Superintendent with analyzing, organizing, and disseminating information and data regarding the school system to the news media, agencies, organizations, social media, and the public.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited educational institution; preferably in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or similar area
Background clearance requirements as specified in Alabama Statutes and State Board of Education regulations.
Preferred Qualifications:
Minimum three (3) years experience of responsible public relations experience in education, public sector, or private sector
Master's degree in Public Relations, Journalism, Education, Communication, or a closely related field.
The Board may consider alternatives to the above qualifications as it finds appropriate and acceptable.
REPORTS TO: Superintendent or the Superintendent's designee
SALARY: To be determined commensurate with local salary matrix, credentials and experience.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Proficient in digital media, (including web content management) social media, and media relations
Proficient in the use of mass notification tools
Direct experience with electronic publication design and production (i.e., Billboards)
Oversees district's branding efforts and ensures implementation to fidelity
Oversees personnel for the digital communication team, including school-based web leaders and social media teams
Visits schools and work sites
Develop and maintain strong relationships with the media and community stakeholders
Write and distribute press releases that promote the programs and achievements of Phenix City Schools
Manage social media for the district and supervise social media presence of schools and affiliated clubs/teams
Plan and evaluate image development for the system and individual schools
Represent Phenix City Schools at community meetings and events at the discretion of the Superintendent
Crisis management communications
Coordinate video/audio broadcast at the discretion of the Superintendent
Conduct a needs assessment to determine an appropriate program of public relations
Maintain and model high standards of professional conduct
Sets annual objectives for and evaluates the system's community relations program, to include budget planning for meeting those objectives
Serves as the system's spokesperson in areas of sensitivity or controversy as directed by the Superintendent
Cooperates with district administrators and other staff members, as appropriate, in publicizing and promoting performances, exhibitions, displays, dedications, or special programs sponsored by the schools and open to the public
Prior to final publications, reviews and edits all district publications which will be disseminated to the general public
Solicits feedback through formal and informal means on activities, products, and purpose of the community relations program and the school system in general
Expedites responses to inquiries and complaints received by the system from citizens, news media, and school personnel
Conducts recognition programs for employees and students
Cooperates with assistance on all city, state, and national campaigns and programs
Researches and write articles and speeches for the Superintendent as needed
Provides in-service training as required on public and community relations
Perform other tasks consistent with the goals and objects of this position
Perform other tasks as deemed necessary by the Superintendent

Terms of Employment:
The contract length is twelve months (240 days), full-time
