*Please note: This is a long-term substitute position with an Anticipated start date of December 11, 2024 - End of the School Year, currently June 16, 2025*

SUMMARY:

The Watertown Public Schools seeks a skilled, dynamic speech-language pathologist with a growth mindset to join our team of educators at the Watertown Middle School. The current responsibilities include provision of evaluations, consultation, and direct speech services.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The essential functions or duties listed below are illustrations of the type of work that is performed and is not an exhaustive list of the duties performed for by this position.   • Consultation to teachers and staff regarding teaching students with communication disorders
  • Administration of speech and language evaluations and production of thorough evaluation reports including educationally relevant findings, student goals and recommendations
  • Provision of direct speech therapy services to students to address communication issues that are interfering with learning
  • Completion of screenings as requested through Student Intervention Team (SIT) processes and IEP Team processes
  • Participation as needed in SIT meetings and IEP team meetings
  • Completion of relevant sections of IEPs and 504 plans
  • Completion of quarterly progress reports
  • Documentation of services provided
  • Provision of trainings for teachers, staff, and parents regarding the role of a speech language pathologist in an educational setting
  • Promotion of equity and appreciation of diversity to ensure opportunities for student learning in the least restrictive environment, regardless of race, gender, gender identity, national origin, language, homelessness, or disability


QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Flexibility with respect to caseloads, age groups, and scheduling
  • Experience as a speech language pathologist in a public school setting
  • Experience assessing all school age children
  • Familiarity with evaluating students who are English Language Learners preferred
  • ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competency preferred


EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
  • Master's Degree
  • Current Massachusetts DESE licensure as a speech language pathologist
  • Current Massachusetts Board licensure as a speech language pathologist


SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:

Most tasks require visual perception and discrimination and the ability to distinguish color. The employee must be able to input information into a computer and as well as read material from a computer monitor as well as printed matter with or without visual aids. The employee must be able to communicate effectively other staff members in order to exchange accurate information.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The noise level in this environment is quiet to loud depending on the activity and the particular part of the day and location. The employee interacts with other staff members and occasionally must meet multiple demands from several people. The employee must be able to drive to the 8 schools within the district.
