Journeyman Lineman I
FUNCTION:
Build, maintain, and troubleshoot GEUS overhead and underground transmission, distribution, secondary and service facilities.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1 Perform duties with minimal supervision, occasionally requiring guidance from higher levels of authority.
2 May be assigned by the Line Supervisor to act as a crew leader in on-call and afterhours.
3 May be assigned by the Line Supervisor to temporarily act as a Line Foreman.
4 May be assigned by the Line Foreman to act in their place during temporary absences.
5 If assigned as a crew leader, responsible for the allocation of work, the safety of and the quality of work, and for policy compliance of those for whom he/she is responsible.
6 Know, understand, and follow all GEUS safety rules and policies.
7 Work safely at all times to protect self, other crew, public, GEUS property and equipment, and personal and public property from injury or damage.
8 Participate in job briefings (tailboard discussions) for each job as described in the GEUS Safety Manual.
9 Attend and participate in safety and training meetings.
10 Subject to on-call duty and emergency response after normal working hours.
11 Provide advice, guidance, and training to subordinate personnel.
12 Learn to wire and install transformers, capacitors, reclosers, street lighting, and other associated electrical equipment from on-the-job experience and vocational training.
13 Will participate in appropriate vocational training with the goal of achieving certification equivalent to Journeyman in the trade.
14 From a bucket truck, wearing rubber gloves, and under close supervision, works on MULTI PHASE circuits energized up to 7,200 volts.
15 Scope of work (voltages, complexity of work, etc.) is dependent upon level of experience and demonstrated expertise.

Employees will be required to follow any other job-related instruction and to perform any other job-related duties requested by supervisor or management.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
1 Class A CD
2 High school diploma or equivalent
3 Specialized training and certification equivalent to Journeyman Lineman level in the trade.
4 Climbs wooden poles and must be able to perform Pole-top Rescue and Bucket Rescue.
5 Possesses basic knowledge of electric theory and how electricity is manipulated and utilized in a power system.
6 Must be qualified to work on or near energized electrical equipment.
7 Can distinguish exposed live parts from other parts of electrical equipment.
8 Is able to determine the nominal voltage of exposed live parts.
9 Is and be knowledgeable of proper clearances and working distances andcorresponding voltages.
10 Has a thorough understanding of policies, procedures, and regulations applicable to Engineering and Operations Department.
11 Demonstrates proficiency in the operation of aerial lift devices, digger-derricks, backhoes, trenchers, and other GEUS tools and equipment.
12 Minimum of fouryears successful performance as Apprentice Lineman.
PHYSICAL EFFORT:
1 Works at heights of up to 150 above the ground.
2 Able to lift a 10 crossarm, weighing 88 pounds from floor to chest height; return crossarm safely to floor.
3 Safely generate push and pull forces of 65 pounds.
4 Ascend and descend a 5-rung ladder 20 times, without exceeding 85% of Maximum Permissible Heart Rate (Karvonen formula).
5 Lift and carry 88 pounds.
