About this Role

The Associate Director, SMA Consumer Marketing, is a key role within Biogen's dynamic and high-growth Rare Disease Franchise, focused on driving comprehensive patient engagement strategies to ensure patients, families, and caregivers are supported throughout their journey. This position leads cross-functional efforts activate patients, develop educational initiatives, and optimize adherence, while ensuring the patient voice remains central to all efforts. In addition to leading engagement efforts, this role requires extensive experience in product launch and life-cycle management, as well as experience with patient services operations, including initiation and conversion rates; and cycle time optimization; specialty pharmacy partnerships, and patient retention program, all with the goal of improving the overall patient experience.

What You'll Do


  • Lead the development and execution of an integrated Consumer Marketing strategy to drive growth and engagement in the SMA patient community.

  • Partner across internal teams (Legal, Regulatory, Medical, Patient Services, Compliance, Corporate Affairs) to ensure seamless execution of patient-focused initiatives.

  • Guide pre-launch preparation activities and develop Consumer Marketing tactics, incorporating patient insights to ensure relevance and impact.

  • Develop creative assets, including brochures, educational materials, social media content, videos, and patient-centric campaigns based on deep patient insights.

  • Collaborate with Patient Advocacy and field teams to represent the patient voice and create a best-in-class patient experience.

  • Leverage strong digital marketing expertise to engage with the SMA community across social media platforms and other online channels.

  • Partner closely with Patient Services and Market Access to optimize patient initiation and retention programs, ensuring timely onboarding and continuity of care.

  • Collaborate with specialty pharmacy providers to streamline cycle times and improve patient access.

  • Act as a bridge between site-of-care teams and patients/families to drive synergies and a unified approach to engagement.

  • Lead patient-focused research, advisory boards, and educational events to inform marketing strategies and improve patient support during key milestones.

  • Effectively manage agency partnerships, budgets, and timelines to deliver high-quality results. Monitor project progress and address challenges proactively.

Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree required; MBA preferred.

  • 7+ years in Pharma or Biotech, with at least 5 years in Marketing or Marketing-adjacent roles

  • Proven expertise in Consumer/Patient Marketing, preferably within Rare Diseases

  • Experience in product launch planning and life-cycle management.

  • Knowledge of patient services operations, including initiation and cycle time optimization, specialty pharmacy partnerships, and retention programs.

  • Strong digital and social media marketing capabilities.

  • Prior experience in campaign development, agency management, and budget oversight.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence without authority

  • Experience with launch planning and execution is a plus
