The Principal Engineer, Power Solutions is responsible for the design, development, and testing of integrated power conversion and distribution systems for critical power applications. Key activities include developing and evaluating concepts, maturing concepts into detailed designs, executing testing and conformance plans, and releasing designs for production and commercialization. The role operates in a global and cross-functional environment and requires frequent collaboration with customers, sales, product management, quality, service, and operations.
The Power Solutions team within the AC Power Line of Business is responsible for managing the global portfolio of integrated product and service offerings to best serve the customers in the market. Key activities include launching new products and services, managing the existing portfolio of products and services, and executing end of production and service. The team operates in a global and cross-functional environment and has frequent interactions with customers, sales, engineering, marketing, and operations.
Responsibilities:
Build and lead a high-performing team of mechanical, electrical, and system engineers to design and launch solutions
Develop concepts for integrated solutions based on input from product management, customers, and stakeholders
Lead feasibility studies and proof-of-concept projects to validate new technologies and approaches
Create detailed system designs including mechanical layouts, system integration, and electrical schematics
Identify and resolve technical risks and issues through collaboration with internal and external engineering teams
Work with design validation team to develop and execute test plans in support of system qualification
Document and release the integrated solution designs in PLM system to enable order, assembly, delivery, and service
Create customer facing submittal drawings and technical documentation
Communicate project status, technical challenges, and development progress to stakeholders
Identify and pursue continuous improvement projects that deliver improved efficiency and/or quality

Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related technical degree; Electrical or Mechanical Engineering is preferred
Advanced degrees or certifications are preferred
10+ years technical, product/service development and testing experience
Experience with 3-phase power distribution or UPS systems is preferred
Prior people management experience is preferred
Ability to quickly develop cross-functional and cross-regional relationships to achieve business objectives
Demonstrated competence in problem solving, data analysis, & project management
Understanding of DFM (Design for Manufacturing) for electrical/mechanical assemblies and cost implications
Experience with new product development processes and activities
Process and results oriented with proven ability to accomplish goals
Proficiency with CAD software (Creo or similar), Microsoft Office suite, Smartsheet, and other business applications
Excellent communications skills - written & verbal
