JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary/Objective

It is the responsibility of the Consumer Lender to be able to handle all functions of application processing and customer contact during the consumer lending process.

Origination Requirements

1. Accept applications for Consumer Loans (excludes primary and secondary market mortgages) from existing customer base, through internal and external centers of influence including but not limited to: Burke & Herbert Bank branches, internal referral sources including upper management and contact center referrals and new customers who request consumer loans.
2. Analyze applicants’ financial status, credit and property evaluations to determine proper loan structure.
3. Follow structured sales calling system as set by the area manager to achieve annual goals.
4. Collect all data necessary to process the application including any follow up documentation required.
5. Input or upload application information into Loan Origination System
6. Follow up on conditions necessary to close or decline loan as requested.
7. Attend and conduct loan closings.

Other Banking Requirements

1. Call on all Burke & Herbert Bank branches in assigned territory.
2. Make introduction of all market applicants to appropriate Burke & Herbert Bank personnel. Generate new leads for the Bank from outside sources.
3. In consultation with Burke & Herbert Bank personnel, explore opportunities for cross-sell of other Burke & Herbert Bank products.
4. Collect fees in accordance with Burke & Herbert Bank standards.
5. Participate, as requested, in opportunities to promote the Burke & Herbert Bank.
6. Stay abreast of new loan products and corresponding credit policy and procedures.
7. Maintains lending compliance including but not limited to: early disclosures, government monitoring, high priced mortgage loans documentation, and customer information procedures.

Other Duties

1. Complies with all policies and procedures as applied to the Bank's BSA/AML policy.
2. Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills/Abilities

1. A Consumer Lender must be able to communicate and work well with the public.
2. Must have the ability to analyze credit information necessary to originate and assist in processing a consumer loan application.
3. Must have knowledge of lending compliance requirements and general knowledge of conventional loans available to the consumer.
4. Must be resourceful and have the ability to work with internal stakeholders insuring all loans meet established guidelines.
5. Must be extremely detailed oriented to ensure accuracy of data supporting loan files.
6. Data integrity must never be compromised.
7. Must have ability to work independently inside and outside the office, manage loan pipeline, follow-up with borrowers, Burke & Herbert Bank partners, and sources of business.
8. Work to ensure timely loan closings.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment

This job operates in a clerical office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Office environment with job duties conducted via telephone, face to face meetings, and on the computer.

Physical Demands

This position requires manual dexterity, the ability to lift files and opening cabinets. This position requires bending, stooping or standing as necessary.

Travel

Local travel may be required for this position.

Education and Experience

1. College degree preferred.
2. 1-2 years lending experience, preferably at a regulated financial institution.
3. Origination and sales experience.
4. Loan operating system experience preferred.
