Position Title: Math Instructor
Classification: Exempt
Reports To: Academic Manager
Position Description
Summary
Responsible for providing academic instruction to students that meets the academic competencies listed in the PRH. Provides students with the math skills needed for continuing education, training, and employment in their chosen career fields and to function independently in society.
Essential Functions
1. Provides instruction in mathematical content domains to enable students to master the U.S.
Department of Education’s National Reporting System Educational Functional Level (EFL)
Descriptors for Adult Educations.
2. Provides each student who tests below EFL 6 with instruction in mathematics.
3. Continues math instruction as a part of student’s overall academic and career technical skills
training programs, and conducts follow-up TABE testing until student achieves EFL 6 on TABE
11/12.
4. Determines where targeted training in math will take place (e.g., in separate math courses, high
school equivalency/HSE classes, high school courses, or through applied academic skills training
in career technical skills programs).
5. Determines where supplemental instruction will take place (e.g., in evening and weekend studies).
6. Plans, prepares, and implements instructional units.
7. Monitors student progress; posts information to student profile sheet facsimile.
8. Provides personal and academic counseling to students.
9. Controls the use of materials and equipment.
10. Participates in student evaluations and development of the students’ MyPACE Pathway
Achievement Records (PARs).
11. Ensures applied academics are integrated into curriculum.
12. Makes recommendations for policy and curriculum revision.
13. Keeps records and prepare reports as required; uses the Center Information System (CIS) for
records maintenance.
14. Documents and records test results and progress in the automated Student Testing System (STS)
of the CIS.
15. Assists in the planning and scheduling of courses.
16. Measures the progress of students through observation and the administration of oral and written
tests.
17. Makes recommendations concerning future studies and training needs.
18. Tutors students or arranges for tutoring provided by volunteers or outside educational agencies.
19. Maintains up-to-date skills in field of specialty through available sources such as publications,
formal study programs, and in-service training.
20. Models, mentors, and monitors the positive normative culture of the center.
21. Acts as a responsible custodian for assigned center property.
22. Reports violations of ethical behavior.
23. Suggests opportunities for continuous operational improvement and reduction of waste.
24. Identifies and reports environmental health and safety concerns. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
Requirements Required Education & Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in education or special education with valid teaching certification in the center’s state
• One year of related experience
Certifications/Competencies
• Ability to effectively communicate and present information to students, management, line staff, and corporate office
• Ability to deal with a variety of people in a professional, courteous manner in diverse situations, excellent communication skills
• Timely completion and accuracy of all departmental work
• Ability to promote the Career Success Standards (CSS) by modeling appropriate behaviors, mentoring students when necessary, and monitoring both positive and negative behaviors through interventions
• Strong organizational skills
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Computer proficiency
Minimum Eligibility Qualifications
• If the position requires driving, a valid driver's license in the state of employment with an acceptable driving record is required
• 1-9 documentation required to verify authorization to work in the United States
• Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test and background check
