Job Description:

Antietam Broadband is looking for a Headend Technician!  This person will be assisting in the technical operations as they relate to the troubleshooting, support and maintenance of network elements and connections required to support Antietam Broadband networks. They work to provide enterprise-wide tiered support on converged distribution and access network elements and connections as needed. They may provide support for moderate services and other products. Rate: $30.00-$34.00/hr plus overtime and on call pay if applicable

Location: Office in Hagerstown, MD

Primary Responsibilities Include:

• Under moderate supervision, responsible for the delivery of high quality off-air, satellite, microwave, and digital transport programming up to the outside plant (point of demarcation from ISP facilities) utilizing, maintaining and installing a variety of optical and electrical interfaces including but not limited to coaxial cable, microwave, fiber optic transmission. This includes the installation, construction, operation, and repair, with root cause analysis of all equipment associated with the Headend.


• Transact HE and facility Technical Quality Assurance (TQA) inspections; Ensure all cabling, equipment installation, power and cooling follows company standards. Implement approved methods of procedure.


• Troubleshoot communication architectures, topologies, hardware, software, transmission and signaling links and protocols.


• Setup and operate legacy headend equipment including but not limited to signal processors, modulators, demodulators, IRD's and IRT's.


• Responsible to analog and digital channel level measurement and quality testing along with periodically testing of equipment and quality of signal throughout the network.


• Install, maintain, and perform testing and required documentation of emergency alert systems.


• Maintain required logs, records, and other documentation in compliance with company and FCC (Federal Communications Commission) technical requirements.


• Support and maintain protocol compatibility standards, develops, and implements network enhancements.


• Work on projects / systems / issues of moderate to medium complexity surrounding network planning, configuration, and optimization.


• Work on one or more projects as a project team member, occasionally as a project team lead.


• Actively and consistently support all efforts to simplify and enhance the customer experience.


• Execute network problem resolution and all required HE Proof of Performance Tests as needed. Also perform all daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly testing and logging.


• Work duties are performed both inside and outside of maintained buildings and property.


• Some work outdoors in adverse weather conditions and at night, when necessary.


• Bend, stoop and crawl.


• Lift up to 80 pounds and to lift, position, and carry ladders.


• Climb ladders, towers and/or utility poles and work in high places.


• Work in small places (such as crawl spaces and attics).

A Successful Headend Technician will have:

  High school degree/GED or equivalent job experience

  
  


• 
  

  Valid and Clean Driver’s License

  
  


• Minimum 4+ years of CATV, Broadband experience


• Advanced knowledge of RF and IP technologies, HFC design, as well as optical test equipment (such as OTDR, Optical Spectrum Analyzer, Fiber Light Identifier, Optical Fiber Scope and Optical Power Meter).


• Fundamental knowledge of Video Networking, IP and DOCSIS. DOCSIS 3.1 deployment experience preferred


• Experience in support of network configurations including Wi-Fi, Routers, Fiber Optic Transmission.


• Working knowledge of MS Office suite products, CADD, Outlook, and Visio. Comfortable with Agile and traditional development methods.


• Skill in using small hand and power tools.


• Near vision acuity required to read maps, complete documentation, and inspect, install, and repair materials and equipment.  Far vision acuity required to drive motor vehicle.


• Ability to communicate in person and by telephone.


• Willingness to work flexible shifts and be on-call as needed.


• Hand and finger dexterity to operate a computer and various office equipment and customer premise equipment.


• Near vision acuity required to read a computer monitor and various reports and documents.


• The ability to read, write, speak, and understand English is required.
