Field Technical Support provides engineering reviews and accuracy verification of transmission connected revenue meters and revenue metering equipment. Specialists also provide engineering support service and verification of electrical equipment across FE Territory including but are not limited to Infrared Imaging (Thermal, Corona, RF and SF6) of various equipment in substations and Transmission circuits. Smart meter field area network technical investigations and engineering reviews in support of smart meter technology. Soil and Ground Grid investigations for design and maintenance engineering. Along with other field engineering support requested by distribution, transmission, and substation groups.
This is an entry level position with multiple career paths that could lead into Engineering and Leadership positions for employees that demonstrate high performance and strong work ethic. We have two (2) openings we are seeking to fill in Eastern and Central, PA.
This position is based in Eastern and Central, PA and requires travel within the FE service territory which at times requires overnight trips and longer distance travel to New Jersey, Western Pennsylvania, as well as Ohio, West Virgina and Maryland. This is a field specialist position, employees will be primarily outdoors on customer premises, electric line rights-of-ways and in or around electrical substations.
Responsibilities include:
Demonstrates a solid commitment to all aspects of safety by adhering to the Company's Accident Prevention Handbook and apply this to safety in the workplace.
Providing field engineering and technical support on High Accuracy Meter Equipment, Smart Meter Network equipment, and various electrical equipment and grounding systems in substations and on electric right of ways.
Technical Specialists use a variety of electrical testing equipment, including but not limited to, power measurement devices, accuracy standards, infrared imagers, and cellular communication analyzers.
Professionally communicates with customers, vendors, internal entities, and department sections. Successfully interacts with a variety of levels of leadership.
Willingness to perform an Emergency Response role during emergencies and storm-related activities which may include travel to various off-site locations as well as FirstEnergy office locations, training facilities and customer sites, when requested.
An employee hired at a higher level will be expected to perform all the above responsibilities with more proficiency, and in a more independent manner, and will be assigned lead and additional responsibilities related to those listed above.
Standardized Summary of Qualifications:
Qualifications at the Assoc Level:
A 2-year degree in a technical discipline plus 0-2 years of directly relevant operating experience
is preferred,
Or in lieu of degree 2+ years of Relevant experience will be considered.
Understanding of power measurement devices and wireless communication methods.
The candidate must have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively, with multiple departments in multiple locations.
Candidate will be required to work at outdoors at construction sites, off road sites, right of ways and customer sites, at times moving test equipment and specialty equipment to hard to access locations.
Demonstrated experience in interpreting work requests, engineering drawings, schematics, equipment instruction manuals and procedures to develop accurate work plans.
Qualifications at the Technical Specialist Level include all the above, plus:
Extensive related job experience.
Must have demonstrated effective performance at the Associate Technical Specialist level, with proven job knowledge and maturity.
Must have a personal vehicle and ability to obtain rental vehicle to commute to various facilities and locations as required, possessing a valid driver's license. Travel expenses are reimbursed.
