Primary Role




  • This position supports the Corporate financial planning, analysis, and reporting processes for American Water.
  • This role is a key strategic partner in driving growth for the organization through the use of and interpretation of appropriate financial models.
  • Responsible for supporting the business planning and reforecasting process through financial modeling and scenario evaluation, ratio analysis, and operational metric interpretation.
  • This role also requires extensive collaboration with operational and functional business partners and functions as a liaison with line of business leaders on financial matters.




Key Accountabilities




  • Participation in strategy development through financial modeling of scenarios to the financial plan in order to achieve targets and objectives that support the overall corporate plan.
  • Collaborate with business to understand key business drivers and operational metrics and deliver effective analysis of results.
  • Provide analytical support to all levels of management, including ad-hoc reporting.
  • Participate in budgeting and reforecasting processes and analysis of financial risk.
  • Collaborate with operational and financial business partners to develop budget assumptions and pertinent supporting schedules.
  • Involvement in management reporting processes, including monthly and annual reporting requirements of various key metrics and performance indicators.
• Other special projects and ad hoc assignments.

  • • Strong financial analysis and complex modeling skills.
  • • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • • Ability to recommend and implement process improvements.
  • • Ability to work independently and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • • Strong interpersonal skills with an emphasis on communication and knowledge sharing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships within finance and with all levels of management.
  • Knowledge of US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Advanced MS Excel and PowerPoint skills.
  • SAP and Oracle Planning experience preferred.




Experience/Education




  • Bachelor's degree in economics, finance, accounting, business or a closely related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Advanced degree or CPA, CMA, CFA, or MBA preferred.
  • 5+ years of accounting/financial related experience required.
  • Regulated utility experience preferred, but not required.
